Differential Advice Needed

I have a rebuilt differential with AAM 3.91 gears, the JRE posi mod, and the LPW cover. Before going to the drag strip this past weekend, the differential was perfectly silent. Now, though, there's a whine at 40+ MPH while under light load or coasting.

I only made 4 passes on street tires (Nitto NT05 315's), although I did power shift.

Should I live with the whine or spend another $500 to have the gears setup again?

You might want to break open your pumpkin and take a look at the JRE spring... there is a bead on one gear that needs to be ground down smooth or it wears into the spring...

WOW! First I've heard of the JRE posi mod issue. Sounds like I get to rip it apart regardless

Thanks for the info.

Yeah... we did about 5 of these back to back and had one spring get trashed and so had to pull the others and grind the bead off of a small gear. Our installer said he missed that step and that it wasn't super clear in the instructions, but it was in there.

I installed the JRE mod myself and I definitely didn't grind anything as part of the install.

check your fluid.lpw covers are having issues with pushing fluid out the vent when driving faster than hiway speeds.i had to call jennetty to have him fax the missing page to the instructions for his posi mod.it was the page were you ground the spiders.

I just saw the LPW oil leak thread and I do not see the grinding part of the JRE posi mod instructions. I bet my diff fluid is low and my gears overheated. What are these vendors trying to do to us?

After reading the LPW thread I'm convinced I ran low on fluid. It was 150 miles round trip to the track, I'm thinking it got really low on the way back an over heated the gears.

I'd still check that spider gear... after a while it cuts a groove in the JRE spring... Glad you figured out the problem...

I have always been advised to heat cycle several times using normal driving before puting the hammer down. Heat cycle from cold to hot to cold. Several times would be six or seven. Can only help and not hurt.
