That was a great read.

I don't get into "Car Wars" (I hate Fords in general, not just Mustangs), but that was a nice read.

Read this, then saw the "FURD QUALITY IZ GUD" thing on CBS Early Show and just..fell off my couch laughing.

Yeah..and the whole "I can fit a half dollar into those trunk gaps" just.. Well, I guess it makes the "lolblandplastic" Camaro and "oosquishyvinylandpanelgaps" Mustang equals.

I was surprised about the negative comment about the manual tranny. Might make some people switch to an auto.

What i dont get, why is it alwasy the R/T... is it because the 09 SRT isnt out yet? or because the SRT is priced out of competition?

I think they left out the SRT8 because it is embarassing that it costs 44k and the RT is about as fast.

SRT8 is $15,000 more than either the Camaro or the Mustang GT. You could just about get a Camaro and a Cobalt for the price of an SRT8.

You know, I was SURE they were going to figure out a way to give it to the Mustang until the end.

Dodge should give the R/T the same suspension and brakes as the SRT8. Maybe then this would be more of a fair fight.

I dont think he was talking about plastic interiors or panel gaps specifically, he was making note of how the testers made comments about the mustang's poor build quality (could've been a one in a million mistake), but nonetheless not too positive response regarding those details for the Ford

not like this is a suprise, but the camaro should win. the suprise i think, more for the camaro folk is how d--m close the mustang is, especially on a track

Good read. I'm surpised with the raving about the 'Stang. I guess the solid rear axle isn't dead...

Well, I am sure we are all glad our baby was the winner but let's face it, you can't go wrong in any of these cars and I am glad to see all three US makers back in the game. If the economy lets things get back to normal at some point, I think these three cars will sell like hotcakes and will also influence car design again, just like US automakers did in the 50's and 60's.

What exactly does the track pack do for the Mustang? Awesome read though.

That, IMHO, was a well written article and featured the input from two different drivers in each car. That is a much better scenario than having one person's point of view throughout the testing.

Unlike some, I was not surprised by the Mustang GT's (w/track pack) handling prowess, as it basically uses the same suspension setup as the Shelby GT (not GT500) which has already been given rave reviews and proven to hold its own on a road course.

Sorry, Hatfields and McCoys: No huge winner here. Both Mustang GT and Camaro SS tackle mountain roads superbly.
Luckily, for the Mustang, most road courses I have ran on have not been riddled with potholes or have particularly rough patches in the corners, so I suspect the competition between it and the Camaro will come down to the skill of the driver, not the engineering of the vehicle.

Can we now put to bed all the fanboy talk about how much the Camaro is going to separate itself from the Mustang "in the twisties"? Sure, as the article stated, the Camaro carries an edge, but not as much of one as many Camaro fan-boys would have hoped.

I would also like to say, having owned two S197 Mustangs, a 2005 GT and the current GT500, that I have never experienced the "window gap" issue referenced in the article, and I have been running at speeds well in excess of 60mph around a road course in both. Consdiering that the roof did not change between the 2005-2009 models and the 2010+ models, I suspect the car they were testing was not a final production vehicle. If it was, Ford QA needs to revisit their inspection process before the cars start hitting the showrooms.

As I have said before, this is a great time to be a performance car enthusiast no matter what you brand preference may be. But you better get in on it now, because I have a bed feeling it will not last very long.

The "track pack" option features three things over the standard GT version:

3.73 rear gears
Upgraded two-piston brake calipers with performance pads
Recalibrated ESC (electronic stability control) funtions

Not at all. I'm hoping it just takes a bit getting used to. This is the 2008 Vette engine, I don't think any of those guys are having too many problems....

Wow,so much for the GT500-killing SS or the GT-killing V6. It's a great car though but i hope these comparos bring the hype and unreal expectations down to earth for some people.

One Change

The only thing I would add to the Camaro that the Mustang has is an aluminum block to cut some weight, otherwise the Camaro rules !!!

I don't know, some of what helps the Mustang GT w/track pack is going to hurt the GT500, the biggest factor being the cars weight distribution and overall heft.

I am interested to see the performance numbers from a stock 2010 GT500, as it has a lot of improvements in the suspension area over the 2007-2009 GT500's and the addition of an ESC system. I suspect the 2010 GT500 numbers to look something like this:

0-60 in 4.2 seconds
1/4mile in 12.1 @ 115mph
60-0 in 110-115ft
Lateral g's in the .92-.95 range (of course, this will depend most on what tires the 2010 features. if they retain the Goodyears, I would say the car will be at the lower end of that range.)

Considering the way that internet advertising is set up to display depending on the type of site you visit, that should not be a surprise. If you are suggesting that Ford somehow influenced the review, then you are really, really reaching.
