Advantages & Reasons to get a Hurst shifter?

The dealership where I bought my 2010 SS can put in a Hurst shifter (one that I call "old school") so my warranty will still be OK. I know it will be less effort to make shifts (I am lazy), and give the interior a unique look. If I go ahead with the shifter, I will replace the white ball with a black one with the "H" emblem on top. I'm just reaching out for opinions from others that have gone the same route and can give first hand good or bad opinions.

One thing I've noticed while looking at pics on Google images, Hurst shifters have a low boot or a high one. I will ask for the lower boot.....I don't want the boot to be right at the shifter ball. Thanks.

Actually, the amount of "effort" (force) required to shift INCREASES. This is basic physics. What is reduced is the amount of travel (shift throw) - the distance your hand has to move to reach a gear. With a reduced distance, shifts tend to be quicker... resulting in less time between gears and more time putting power to the wheels.

The boot can be installed high or low on the stick. There's just a rubber grommet attaching the boot to the chrome stick. You can slide it up or down depending on your preference. Great choice going with the billet black H knob!

....so your saying not to get a Hurst shifter? The dealership where I bought my "SS" will install the Hurst shifter, that's the reason why I'm debating about getting it (so warranty will still be OK). Its not like a Hurst shifter will help me win races (cause I don't plan on racing) and I don't want a shifter that will be worse than what came with the car. Ahhhh too many decisions!

I think what we are trying to say is like most short throw shifters it will be a lot less travel distance between gears but you will need to provide a little more muscle to get it into a gear. Also short throw increase the firmness in the shifter but as stated earlier the effort needed to shift into a gear will increase.

If you're not sure find one of our group gatherings in your area and I'm sure any of us that have them would gladly let you play with them to see the differences. I personally love the look and feel of my Hurst.
