Black SSX or Polished ZL1 Wheels?

I would like to get everyones opinion about the standard Black SSX wheels or the optional Polished ZL1 wheels. I am still not sure which way to go and getting ideas from you all might help. The black wheels definitely make it look more racy and the polished wheels a totally different look, but I would like to hear some of your opinions and why you would pick SSX or Polished. Thanks!

I'm also undecided, but it all depends on body color. White is my 1st paint choice so it would be the polished wheels. Competition Gray wheels would be a nice option. Then again if they do offer some different stripe colors? Black wheels do seem to be the current trend and nice, but getting old to me.

Depends of the color of the car. The two colors should be in reverse to give a nice contrast. Since there are a lot of black in ZL1 used already, personally I'd go with While or Yellow or Red. And for these three body colors, I'd choose black wheels.

I've had them both, and for aggressive cars, I'd would only go with black wheels.

IOM with Black Wheels

Or White with Black Wheels

The color of the car for me is undecided, but the color of the wheels is locked in.

Black

I'd go with the SSX wheels. But maybe in a gunmetal or even black chrome depending on the body color and if I'm not going to track the car

I find it hard to believe the SSX wheels aren’t lighter even if they have said they weigh the same, but that is my opinion. It has been said the SSX wheels will be standard and the other will be an option ($$$). It has also been speculated that the SSX wheels will come in different finishes, so there is a lot up in the air.

Given the two options – SSX black or polished I’d probably pick the SSX even if I’m not a huge fan of black wheels. I think it will look good with IOM and I like the looks a bit better. I’m hoping they offer them in another finish in which case I’d have more thinking to do. A machined / painted finish would be nice – something with contrast. The only way I’d not go with the SSX wheels is if they are the optional wheel and cost $5,000 or if the weights are released and they weigh more.

Just not into black wheels. I would prefer a machined satin finish SSX wheel, but if that is not offered, I will be going with the optional polished wheels.

It would be nice if they offered that as an option for sure!

Hmm well started off wanting the SSX rims, when I first saw them being offered. But after seeing the rims close up at the Frederick show, my opinion changed. I just think over time I would be happier with the polish wheels. To much black around the tires with the SSX rims, and the polish rims (when clean) just give the car that classic look for me.

But if the polish rims get to be real pricey, I could change my mind.
Also I kinda want to have a little differant look from the average ZL1, and
figure that thier will be alot more of the ZL1's having the SSX rims on them.

Hope that helps some.

For me, I'd put the black wheels on the black or yellow car. Other than that, I'd go with the polished wheels.

One thing that I always liked was the white wheels on the Trans Am in 1984. That would look awesome on a white ZL1 camaro - SSX wheels in white that is.

I have that same thought process. Black is popular but is starting to play out..at least in my minds eye anyway..LOL...
Now of course we have Red rims with chrome lips, and blue rims with chrome lips... and other colors of course. Not a hater, but I think Im just old fashioned in liking the polished or chromed look on a dark car. If I had a white car I might think differently as the contrast is cool. again, MHO.

I'll be going for the SSX wheels in black BUT, if available, I'd much prefer them in comp gray.

In my opinion an all-out, take no prisoners car such as the ZL1 should have an "all business" look to it.....the design and subdued color (in black or gray) of the SSX wheels fit the bill perfectly. Polished wheels are a bit too "flashy" in my opinion would look entirely out of place on the ZL1.

Not a fan of black wheels. I would prefer polished or a satin finish SSX wheel, but if that is not offered, I will be going with the optional polished wheels. I like the polish ZL1 as first shown, with the ZL1 embedded in.

I said when I first saw the SSX concept car's wheels that I thought they were the best looking and designed 20" wheel I've seen on a 5th gen, OEM or aftermarket. I still am incredibly happy and pleasantly surprised that they made them available for the ZL1.

No question for me, it's the SSX wheels.

Just about any rims can have a finish changed. Fire up the sandblaster to strip it, or find a paint color of your choice to go to. Not that big of a deal really. I like the SSX wheel, and I will modify it if needed to get it to a satin finish.

I was gonna black out the silver wheels if those were standard, now i will save money and still get what I want. I'll have to say SSX wheels, i hope it's true that they will be standard

I plan to get both and switch them around depending on my mood. In '97 when I bought my Z28 SS, part of my purchase deal was an extra set of wheels and tires at dealer cost (plus extra SS floor mats, car covers, etc.) Maybe even a third set to powdercoat based on my final exterior selection. Not sure what color exterior yet.

Z4, Since you had a chance to see the wheels in person did you see both of them together or just the SSX wheels? What about the SSX wheels did you not like? I am hoping that they bring a ZL1 or both to the Miami Auto Show so I can see them in person. I had not heard or read that the SSX wheels will be available in any other color than black. Thanks for your input guys.

Well they just had the one ZL1 on display at the
Frederick Maryland camaro regionals. But the SSX
were my first choice once I found out they were
going to be available on the ZL1.
But when my wife and I saw them on the car, they
just had a plastic cover over metal appearance to
them. With all the plastic around the car already it
just kinda gave me ehh impression.
I'm hoping that between now and ordering time,
that both ZL1's in red will appear at the same car
show. If that were to happen I would try and catch
a plane to see both.
This car is going to be 2nd childhood toy really. I will
mod it, and drive it as I see fit, and my wife and I
are going to have hug perma grins all the times were in
Thier driving it.
I really hope that every one has the opportunity to see
this car in person. I can only speak for myself, and you
may come up with a completely different view then my
own.
I may end up getting both rims, depending of course
on how much this car ends up costing. I know the
general consensus is for the SSX rims, and perhaps
down the road if I go with the polish rims I may regret
decision latter. So that one thought kinda pushes me
back to my original decision of those rims. It's a tough
choice, and hopefully you'll get to see the rims up
close and can feel confident on what you like.

Z4 - Thanks so much for the information, it was very helpful. I too hope to be able to see both cars or at least both sets of wheels in the same place and time. Maybe at the Woodward Drive event this weekend both cars will be in attendance. The professional picture of the ZL1 on the drag strip highlighted the black wheels to make them look gray with the light reflecting off of them. The lighting really makes the wheels 'pop' in the picture. The polished wheels always look good. It will be interesting to see what the option price will be on the polished wheels. Thanks again.
