I would personally love to have a 373 gear. Nice road gear with a little get up and go to it.

I too think the 3.73 will be nice mix .. I had 4.10s in my 98 cobra, but that had a different TQ curve and redlined at 7200 ...

I'm doing 3.90's but anyone who does 4.10 will not be very inconvenienced. I just do a lot of multi hour driving so I still want a significant overdrive.

I'm thinking 3.73-3.90 range, I don't wanna lose my top end. Plus 4.10 or more and other work will be required...

3.73's would be weak on this car. With as tall as a tire it has, 3.90 should be the minimum, that would put the gearing on par with most stock cars (not a performance gear). 4.10's are OK, but not much better. It has room for much more gear than that. Really, again because of those monster height wheel/tires in the back, this car needs some serious gear. With the stock gearing the car does over 160 in 4th.

You can use this site to look at some information:

3.45s
http://www.car-videos.net/tools/spee...B1=Recalculate

Hmm .. check out what MPH the top of 3rd is here .. bump that rev limiter up a bit and I bet you see a 10th or so off the stock times ... high 12's easy ..

it shouldn't need bumping of the rev limiter at the track. There is enough room in 3rd to finish the 1/4 without shifting into 4th. 3rd should be good enough for ~114 mph based on some other calculators.

I can see Evils point using your calculator. The car will only be running at 1900 rpm at 60mph with 4.56 gears!

Anyone know what the "sweet spot" rpm range is for the LS3?

I'm going with 4.10. 4.10 gears should be fine, given how super-long (that's what she said) 6th gear is. Hell, I think even 4.33 might workable. My primary concern is more about gear whine than highway fuel economy.

That is true .. I was always worried about that with my 4.10s and 98 cobra ... luckly I never had any whine from them .. on another note ... those of us who may be looking at some roots style blower may be interested in how a gear change will affect the first couple of gears as well .. need to keep traction .. lol

Exactly what I was thinking.. IMO our only set back is the stock gear and with either one I think we can achieve better times than the GXP.

because of the rear tire size, putting 4.10's on the 5th gen will feel like the equivalent of installing 3.73's in the 95 (and, actually, considering how much higher the LS3 revs vs. the LT1, it's worse than 3.73's in relative performance gain).

Not to be a debbie downer here, but will 4.10's fit in this car? I thought the G8 can only fit up to 3.90's?

I have 3.73's in my 4th gen and I get some whine right at 65mph. It's a little annoying, but my exhaust loud enough that it doesn't matter much.

do note that you guys will be sacrificing mileage out the ass

Personally I would do 3.92

Not really. How often would you need to be in 6th gear with the stock gear ratio? Almost never!

The calculator that the OP used has a conversion factor of .965 for the tire height. Meaning whatever the tire height is calculated out to be, it multiplies that times .965, which makes the height used in the calculations shorter. It does this to account for various factors such as the weight of the car deforming the tire slightly, which makes the actual height shorter. This calculator will probably provide you a more accurate answer than others that do not use this conversion factor. Notice this one says your top speed in 3rd is 110.1 mph. Also notice how every single test so far has put the trap speed in the 1/4 at 110-111. I've never seen so many tests on one car with such close numbers. I'm assuming that's because at about 111, the rev limiter kicks in, and the testers are running it straight to the limiter to avoid shifting into 4th, which would make the 1/4 times slower. So yeah, raisng the rev limiter to about 6900 would probably net you some faster times/higher trap speeds.

Guys/gals, where are you going to get 4.10s for the factory rear?
