B-A Sound System vs. previous Monsoon ??

The 245 watts of power ...

is this PER CHANNEL or TOTAL / CONTINUOUS or PEAK ??

For comparison, how many watts was the Monsoon system from Gen 4 ??

is there an actual spec ...

I.E. 245 watts @ *.**% THD ??

I've been driving Mustangs with the Mach 460 Sound System for 14 years. Mach 460 has 3 amplifiers, 1 60 watt & 2 85 watt for the subwoofers ... 230 watts RMS - 460 watts peak @ 2% THD.

Any more detailed specs available on the new Boston Acoustics system besides "9 speakers and 245 watts" ??

Thanks,

Doug

I'm guessing that the 245 watts is RMS, but I'm not sure if there's external amps involved.

There is an external amp, Based on the number of speakers the 245 watts is likely RMS.

The old monsoon system was 500 watts peak, I don't know what the RMS was, however the speakers definitely were not as good quality.

Come on! someones gotta know this stuff. If it only has 245 watts peak, might as well not get the BA for 5 hundo and use it to do the sound yourself. Ive gotta have some thump in my music.

IF the BA system is exactly the same H.U and just a different external amp and speakers you could do your own, but ud have to replace all the speakers and fit an amp yourself (which, personally is half the fun!) if, when you get the BA system, its a different H.U (ie different internal components for better sound quality) you would probably want to get the BA regardless

Also, as was asked before, RMS means Root Mean Square, while RMS actually means nothing for audio amplifiers, as that calculation for finding an average value is not really applicable to audio systems, it is taken to mean the average power an amp can output....think of it as a slang term for average power.

Typically when amplifiers are advertised (unfortunately) the peak power is stated, for example after market car headunits typically say 50 wattx4 channels for power, if you read the manual under the specifications, it will list somewhere near 22wattsx4 as continuous power. Now this is not always the case, as most of the best after market amp manufacturers list the "average or RMS" value, like JL audio

So to answer the pervious question...Nope, i dont know...lol...but if i had to guess, based on number of speakers, a the reputation of the company, i would wager that its the average power, with the peak power closer to 400 or above

I think the old 4th gens Monsoon was 200rms and if I remember correctly it was 500 peak...ok I found it and it was on LS1tech. Heres the link. Now the new 5th gen all we have for info is the 245rms.

Whats funny is I actually wrote the Firebird section of that article, lol.

Based on the way this car is designed otherwise I would say with almost certainty that the headunit on BA and non BA cars is identical. There is likely just a bypass somewhere in the harness that hooks up the amplifier to the speakers using line level output from the deck.

On Monsoon cars, even though the headunits had different faceplaces with the Monsoon logo, they were identical. Not only that, the amplifier only powered the front and far rear mids and the subs. The deck's internal amplifier powered the tweeter in front and back. However I doubt that the BA syatem follows the same setup like that.

Just picked up an 800 watt RMS amp today...plan on running two 12" DVC subs. Think that will blend well with the BA system? Obviously I'll have to keep gain to to a minimum, but hopefully they will balance.

Just for what its worth, I drove a Dodge Challenger RT with the Boston Acoustic setup, I believe it was the 276 Amp version. Had great sound!!! Awesome base and clarity with a CD, as well as good reception with the satelite radio. I also drove a 2008 Mustang GT with the Audiophile 1000 setup...poor sound compared to the Dodge. And the Dodge add on was like a few hundred, where the Mustang setup was over 1000! I think we should be fine for sound, but don't they offer an aftermarket sub/amp setup? I was thinking I have seen those on the add-ons they're trying to market. Something else...if you go on ebay; they already have the engine covers they charged $285 for on here for around $100 I think? I'm with the rest of you tho...its just gonna be what we think when we're sitting in our Camaro's cruisin down the road trying not to get a ticket that we can decide if we like the system or not?

Nothing too crazy...it's an Akai brand, but that may change by the time Camaro comes along. Would prefer to go Earthquake...that is my favorite brand for amps.
