When are you going to pick it up? If it's on the weekend I'd like to come down and see you take her for a spin.

Don't know. October and most of November is booked up for me. I'm hoping early December. Of course, you can go back and drive it after each step .

Sound good. Between you and OOLIE there should be some really good feed back.

Haven't done one in a while. The last one was in Jan. and we did 350 RWHP at 4.5 psi. I've used my logs to do a "road dyno" and it had me at closer to 360 after Vince did some tweaking and a little under 400 RWHP at 6 psi. The 6 psi just wasn't reliable (would lean out after a long pull or a few quick back-to-back runs). Once we get the fuel issue worked out we will probably try 9-10 psi before the engine comes apart. If my calculations are correct that should put us in the 490-530 range (the new differential makes it a little hard to estimate).

That is sick!! So there would be extra costs associated with the kit if you want to go beyond 6psi?

Tracy doesn't have the new pump yet, so I don't think he knows how much extra it will be. With that you should be able to do 9-10 psi without issue I would think. I would probably try even further, but since we are going to drop the engine to do the cams we might as well work on the rotating assembly. The forged rods are good, but they are forged to size. That leave hair-line cracks that will eventually get bigger over time. The new ones will be much better for high boost (probably 25+ psi, not that I'll ever go that high). He will also put in forged pistons that lower the compression ratio, so that will make it safer. All told, I have no idea yet what it is going to cost. But if all you are looking for is some extra power then the basic kit with the new fuel pump should be plenty.

Yes that is more then plenty, don't want to start tearing the engine apart. I will be following your progress and hopefully by the time I pay of my car next year I should be able to afford this

Gretchen, did I read in one of the threads you were swapping the rear end?

Between catching the updates, been wondering what to do about the M6.

Yes, we did. It got rid of the one-wheel spin problem. With a M6 I don't think you have the problem. I've never looked at that differential, but if it is as punny as the one for the A6 I would still have it on my to-do list.

Folks,

The M6 has the same rear as the SS's, you can also swap the same gearsets available for the SS.... I believe ZMadness has done this....

I know you can swap the gears, but I wasn't aware they were the exact same differential. Learn something new everyday!

Sweet. Wonder how much the M6 can handle? I haven't had the grind / bind problem so I wonder if the factory started using the replacement bushings at some point.

Is there someplace where you can input the VIN and get the build date?

I can just pop the hood on mine and look down at the sticker on the subframe in front of the engine.

Build date's right there.

How quickly do you shift? I bought my 2011 1LT RS M6 in November 2010 and it only grinds when I "power shift", meaning that I shift as fast as I can. If I shift quickly, but give it a split second extra in between shifts, it doesn't grind. I don't think it's the bushings, I think its the synchros. They may not have been designed for an engine that revs to 7K RPMs. I heard they use this same tranny in the older Lexus IS250's. Anyone know the redline on the IS250?

Looks like it's 6K RPM max. This may be part of the issue. The driveshaft is spinning too fast for the synchro at redline shifts.
