:( So I finally understand that the order date only got me a place in the number of pre-order allocations my dealer has. I figured that out last week! (I wish I would have known that about 7 months ago!
) I was one of the naive ones who thought that the earlier I ordered the faster the car would be built. Seems logical that as orders come in they are built. Shipping would have some coordinating to do though. ![]() I also understand that the bigger dealers in bigger markets are getting more cars (but don't agree, however,) and I understand that the V6 was constrained for a while but now it is no longer constrained. HOWEVER, I need further enlightenment: 1. Why are those big dealers getting so many built immediately? Couldn't they build a few cars everyday for the small guys? ![]() 2. How come it takes 3 weeks from the order going in to production? ![]() 3. When will production ramp up? 4. When will cars start getting shipped sooner than 3 weeks after production? ![]() 5. AND finally, in case you missed it, I want my car and I want it now!

2. If you're asking why it takes 3 weeks from the time the order is pulled until it is built, there's a 14000 car line my friend... 3. It is. It started at 150 on day one and was over 250 the other day. 4. Once the initial quality audits are done (hopefully soon) the cars will ship much faster than 3 weeks after they are built I would guess. BTW, this Monday will only be 2 weeks from start. 5. Don't we all my friend... don't we all...

2. I still don't understand. Not all of them are being built right now. They started 3/16 and it is 3/27. Were they pulling orders before 3/16 and letting the dealers/buyers know the orders had been pulled 3 weeks before? I can't remember if people were getting that info in February. If they were then I get it! 3. 15,000 preorders + 6000 dealer cars/250 per day = 84 days / 5 days per week = 17 weeks = July 10th. Boy I hope I am not #21,000! 4. Has anyone got their car yet or heard when it would be shipped? Thanks for your help!

3. Preorders will NOT NECESSARILY be built before yours. For example, someone who pre-ordered and is #18 of 25 will most likely get their car AFTER you if you happened to find a dealer that didn't take many preorders and you ended up #12 of 30. 4. No one has got their car yet- maybe with the exception of a very special (and unfortunate) circumstance with an illness of a family member of a person here on C5. The cars are undergoing a major initial quality audit and have not left Oshawa yet. Maybe sometime next week with any luck they'll begin to ship. Feel free to continue to post here or even PM me if you'd like. We're all here to help.

snofyter, I think trm0002 answered most of your questions. I think what you have to realize is that during the early run of cars there is a TON of verification and quality inspections that go on. Behind the scenes, you also have input coming back from CTF drivers that may be resulting in tweaks to production. This car is under a giant microscope, both inside GM and outside. They will not let this car start shipping until they are confident that everyone is going to be happy with the quality.
I also think that many people had/have unreal expectations of how quickly they would get their car. Add on top of that the way that allocations and cars are distributed and the fact that many dealers aren't helping by telling everyone they are #1 and they will have their car in April. I have said it a bunch of times now. We all need to take a deep breath and be patient. GM wants us to have our cars as bad and as fast as we want them. And I do believe that we are going to get them a lot faster than everyone expected. Just hang in there!

I am actually shocked that I may get my car in April. My VIN just came down this week and I was told today about the quality checks at Oshawa. I never thought that being a #1 allocation went further than the dealership and if your dealer led you to believe that you better have all your wits about you when you go sign the papers. My car is sitting at a 4000 event code and I am foaming at the mouth. However, I will wait as long as they need to make sure it is my dream come true. How do you get mad at that?
May I suggest taking a test ride in one of the vettes as a way to pass the time. ![]() ![]() ![]()

I DO UNDERSTAND BUT....

Yes, you are right. I have no problem with trm002's answers, if fact, he has been very helpful to me. And I sincerely hope that you are correct about everyone getting their Camaro a lot faster than expected. But................... ................................ I am afraid that I still feel that the distribution of the allocations/concensus/which dealer is getting cars & how many they are getting, is not fair. I am just saying that they should make a car for the guys that ordered at the small dealers. once in awhile, not shut out the big guys; but it looks to me like some folks who ordered later and are, say 15th out of 25 allocations are going to take delivery of theirs before me (#1 of 2). That's all. And if we don't express our feelings/opinions how will GM know?

I don't think the bigger dealers are currently getting a lot up front either. I ordered from one of the bigger ones in the country .. according to the spreadsheet in the other post, they currently only have 1 coming (although I think they have 3 total). This is out of over 60 initial allotment ..

I do not know about other states, but in Oklahoma there are only 3 Camaros coming to the state so far(as I type this). While I do not know these delearships' initial guide numbers, two are going to a small dealer in rural, NW Oklahoma and one is going to a dealer in metro OKC. Therefore, I believe GM is attempting to balance it out at this early point in the process.

I think a lot of people have to realize that a lot of people ordered in Oct. The larger dealers will probably get more cars first becuase they have a larger allocation. I ordered the first day we could order in Oct from Karl Chev in IA and I am #20 out of 43, even though I ordered on the first day of pre-orders. I could have ordered from a dealer in SIoux Falls, SD that had an allocation of 5 and been the first one but they wanted $10k over msrp. Hopefully all of our pre-orders will be filled as soon as possible because I know we all want to drive our cars!!

I agree. I ordered on the 2nd day in October, and was #42 of 67 (i think). I'm not expecting my car anytime soon :( I assumed, until I found this site, that production would be first come, first serve. Also adding to some peoples' frustrations is dealer mis-information. Initially my dealer was telling me that I would get my car in March!

Check it out, Mac Haik in Houston has 4 camaros on the list already with a VIN.....yes the same dealership that demanded $6000 over MSRP. You think this is just? My guess is that it's only because they are a high volume fleet dealer...hmmm how many fleets will have the 2SS?

"Ralley Yellow 2LT / RS with custom stripe ordered Nov. 8th; #1 of 2 allocations at a small town dealer & disenchanted to learn that gets me late summer or early fall delivery."

I've seen plenty of small dealers having their cars already built. ie Chevy dealer
in Daleville, Indiana population under 2000 people. They've got 2 cars built already. Edit: Now they have 3. another just added on 4/1. Last edited by BackinBlackSS/RS; 04-01-2009 at 11:30 AM. |

First come first served appears to NOT be the norm when it comes to building cars. I know of way too many "reasons" why, but I really believe that there has to be a more fair way to respond to the pre-orders than allowing a bunch over here and a few over here to be delivered.
