swap IRS for solid

Anyone swap the IRS for a Dana 60 or Ford rear w/o IRS? If so, can you share thoughts on swap and rear used?

There are some threads on this and a few people have tackled it. It is not a simple task and it is not cheap once you factor in all of the fab work and cost of all new components. If you were to do it are you thinking of 4-link?

There are rides on this site pushing 4-digit horsepower through the IRS and it is working well.

Thanks guys. Will do Mike. Mike, did you ever get control of the IATs? If/when you do/did, let me know what you did. Thanks.

I was told the traction is unbelievable on the street compared to original suspension and the ride is exceptionally smooth on the street and this car gets driven alot on the street. This car makes 790 horsepower at the crank.

That is very sexy. I'm not a big fan of the IRS.. My old Land Rover Discovery had a solid rear diff. Much better for rock crawling, trail riding, and mud slinging.

So I definitely agree it has great traction.

Takes a lot of fabwork, and you can't lower the rear, just due to the space available in the floorpan due to the design if having a stationary rear member. The xtreme kit posted above pretty much redesigns the entire rear susp. And is about the only way to go. Bet it costs a pretty penny

I have some pics. of this camaro and it sits as low as any I seen on here. This car still has all the stock interior pieces with the back seat in it.

As shown in the pics. all the rear cradle mnts are still there if some wanted to back to the IRS.

Go to the drag strip one weekend with the 4-link and the next weekend go to a road coarse with the IRS , best of both worlds.
