Hurst vs Factory Shifter and 2nd Gear Grind

This is kind of an FYI and WTF post.

I just recently sold the Factory Hurst from my 2011 SS and replaced it with a factory stock shifter. With the Hurst shifter I would grind second gear everytime I got into it unless I slowed my shift down considerably. Now with the stock shifter installed I have yet to grind, trust me I've been trying. What gives? The only thing I can think of is with the longer throw it has slowed my shifting down just enough to let the trans do its thing.

I was just about to give up on this car and trade it off. Now, I dont know....

The longer shifts help the synchros do their thing and avoid grinding. It's very hit and miss; my factory hurst doesn't grind and then other people with the standard shifter have the grind issue.

Hoping it won't eventually happen since the fix is about $2500-3000 including labor.

The stock shifter does a pretty good job at hiding internal transmission problems including warn synchros. Hurst shifters are designed to do just the opposite - let the driver know exactly what's going on (good or bad) with the transmission by creating a more direct link to the transmission internals.

My 2011 w/factory Hurst has only grinded 2nd when I ran up the RPM's prior to the transmission being fully warmed (needle closer to 180*). Once I figured that out she shifts like butter.

I have noticed when I am driving her real hard and shifting from first to second I sometimes zap second gear when shifting and I know it isn't me because I have yet to do it in any other gear and I am shifting just as fast.

Still no second gear grinds after about a month of driving it with the stock shifter in it. It is still notchy though, sometimes notchier than other times which leads me to believe there is still a mechanical issue with the trans. Also I have had it jump out of second gear 3 times now on different occasions. None of these were under a hard load just normal casual driving. The dealer has not been able to duplicate it, I am still waiting on what they plan on doing as far a rebuild or replace trans "Again".
