I can't remember if the driveshaft is hollow, but in your other thread I said it almost sounded like a pebble found it's way in there and is bouncing around inside the driveshaft.

You know, when I hear that video, I think of the end of Kill Bill Vol #1 when they are fighting in the snow. In the background all you hear is this water well bucket thingy fill up and then dump. Sounds just like that!

I know, I know, that helps nothing.

That's actually very possible. There's about a good quarter inch of play.

On our cars (IRS) ALL the vertical movement is taken up by the half-shafts with the diff being "solidly" (somewhat) mounted to the car (via the subframe). The driveshaft angle doesn't change to the degree your tech thinks it does (a little bit is designed in to handle the flex of the motor/trans mounts). Capiche?
Nice. Got it. Makes sense.

So just replace it and I should be good to go.

But I'd really like to knwo what caused it to fail.

I'd totaly get away with it too.

But, I need to figure out the cause if there is one.

Also, I wonder if it would be cheaper or easier to buy a whole new drive shaft rather than fool with this one. It's gonna cost me about 450.00 all together.

Bearing, U Joint, and shop to remove and repress the bearing, then put it all back together. I'd just do it myself if it didn't require a pressed bearing.

The cause is, the stock DS is junk IMHO.

sorry , i have to disagree, considering the mods i have seen that people are pushing this stock ds thru ..it has held up rather well , when you compare to the rest of driveline...much other weaker parts...axles/rear-1 wheel spin/rear itself/output shaft of tranny/i have seen less then a handful of oem ds break under some extreme mods...i have seen just as many aftermarket high performance ds fail...difference is the oem ds outnumbers the high perf ds by 2000-1...... this is my opinion ......opinions are like a##holes , we all have one..lol

Yup mine is an auto. I'm not really concerned about the two piece or one piece thing. Just might be easier to snatch one out and slap another one in rather than have this bearing done.

A little cheaper, but I can't see an illustration to see if the bearing comes with it.

Sounds like an excuse to buy a new tool! DIY

http://www.harborfreight.com/12-ton-...ess-33497.html

But, does sound like a bad carrier bearing. Could just be the magical PQ "luck" and you got a bad one and its finally done.

I've given a ton of stock parts to members on here at no charge. Drop springs, stock shifter, door panels, intake manifold, and a number of other things.

Heck, I gave GTAHVIT my exhaust and cats. ........

Jeez I hope its done.

But I'm not sure it's a simple press like that. The shop even said that they'd have to send it off to be done. To a clutch and drivetrain shop.

I'm telling you. Those vibrating wheels are causing all this. Get those wheels off your car

Ok......

I just saw a driveshaft for 1500.00

I think I'm gonna go lie down.

EDIT: Here's one. Brand new 380.00 and appears the part number comes with the carrier bearing.

It's ok. I'll wait.

I'll order one on Monday. Doubt I'll get it shipped til Tuesday anyway.

Kinda crazy though. It was going to cost me 450.00 to have this done by the shop. I can buy one, AND have the shop do it for under 400.00 but since I won't have to have the other shop do the bearing I'll just do it myself and get out of it for maybe under 300.00. Looks easy enough.

I wonder if I need to get some bolts? They are one offs aren't they?
