straight speed shifter

I was talking to my dad and in his old 4 speed 396 1969 Camaro he had a racing shifter that is sick. it was just push up each time to upshift and pull down to downshift. then from first pull a lever and pull down for reverse. I WANT ONE
anybody heard of a modern one?

If I'm understanding this right; wouldn't tap shifting be today's equivalent of a racing shifter?

That sounds like a sequential manual. That is a different type of transmission and uses a different clutch style. If you google it you can find more information.

Sounds like it may have been a Hurst V-Gate (or Verti-gate) 4 speed shifter. Search ebay for auction 270782648523. Old school piece that was really only good for racing. Not real convienient for a street driven car.

I had this on one of my old Mopars. It was fun to use...great for racing. Too bad the shifter won't work on the new transmissions.

Not only that, the Verti-gate shifter was hard on synchros.
