I can only find one direct comparison between the 2011 GT500 and a 2011 CTS-V.... and its a toss up!

I really really hate it when information is skewed to make something look better or worse..... I have this weird thing about really digging into car reviews and such.

Oh well......

That'll be great, I'll just laugh at the people defending the fact that it can't be over 4100 with their lives..........

fbodfather the new Camaro ZL1 looks and sounds AMAZING!!!! But given what I have just seen about the new 2013 Shelby GT500 and it having quad exhaust like the ZL1 and it having a 625hp engine has me a little worrie. Im hoping the magnetic ride and such will be enough of a difference. I'm wondering what will happen once the 625hp SHelby GT500 is released with Quad Exhaust? Either way I still like the Camaro ZL1 better!

I'm not seeing much of that. I'm just mostly seeing people stating that the official weight hasn't been released yet.

I love how people speculate with every bit of effort they can based on some fact and fill in the blanks with speculation!

My Trailblazer is a perfect example of why you CAN'T bench race the way most of these members are doing...If I told everyone the numbers it ran with the mods it had at the weight it was, no one would be able to make the numbers match! Hell, Tom Wallace himself couldn't make sense of it when we talked about it this Spring as he crawled all over and eye ****ed my Trailblazer for the better part of an hour!

It's beautiful, I want one. But like some have posted above, the thing sure is starting to seem like it could be a great deal more expensive than what was initially *assumed*. That being said, sometimes it seems to me like GM gets so caught up in making sure that a car has wings, fairy dust and functional g-damned eyeballs in the grille that they lose sight of how they're pricing the thing right out of the reach of the target demo. There should never, repeat: never, be a Camaro that is not well within the realm of reality for the average working man...and $55k is not. I've never owned a single car in my life that wasn't a GM product but after the bailout, after going out of pocket for a new transmission at 60k miles due to a failed forward sprag, etc. etc., the price of this car is what will determine if a lifetime of loyalty goes down the drain and I have to learn to like the Boss. Every time I've read an update on this car I've shrieked, "no!" Because all I can hear in my head is the intro to Pink Floyd's 'Money'.

Surprise me in the right way, Chevy...

Here look, base SS = 3840lbs

+ 100lbs for supercharger kit (intercooler + fluid) (A ATI Procharger kit, 2 core intercooled is 100lbs.)
+ 80lbs in stronger drivetrain components, transmission, clutch and exhaust piping
+ 80lbs in heavier wheels & tires
+ 40lbs (?) because of MRC
+ 20lbs for engine oil cooler
+ 20lbs for rear differential cooler

= +340lbs

add that to 3840 and you have 4180lbs. Now subtract the difference between hydraulic steering vs electric and you have a close estimate of the final weight. I am not including the carbon fiber hood, because the SS aluminum hood is already light, and the ZL1 hood is already slightly bigger than the SS hood, and the SS hood has the mailslot which we all know GM installed to save at least 30lbs of weight off the hood ;-)
Except that the wheels & tires are supposed to be about 20 lbs lighter than on the SS (total, not per corner), and I'm pretty sure the SS already has an oil cooler. Not sure how much extra the MR shocks weigh, 10 lbs each sounds like a lot but I guess its possible.

In the end, I still believe it will be a stretch for the ZL1 to reach 4100 lbs, let alone 4200.

Well, there's those of us that say it hasn't been released yer ... and then there are the ones that keep claiming that it will be 4200 lbs.

Even if this pig ends up at 4200lbs. It's still lighter than my pigster! People need to quit being hung up on numbers...I know 3300lb. STi's that make less than 400awhp that would would a Boss on the track. Hell, the company I worked for up until last week has a 120hp Toyota Yaris that will hang with 500hp Vipers in the corners...horsepower numbers and curb weights are not the biggest issues! Effectively being able to use the power the car makes is the key. Suspension design, tires, shocks, etc.

Since when does the 5.0 "rape" the SS?

Keep in mind that Ford took Bailout TARP money through their financial arm Ford Motor Credit. As did many other manufacturers who for whatever reason didnt get bad press like GM and Chrysler did.
Be fortunate that you don't have a Ford Mustang with the 6speed MT82 transmission. The Tremec 6060 and Hydramatic 6L80 are far better and stronger.
The original ZL1 was way out of the average working man's abilities also.
There will be a Z/28 or something similiar that will slot between the SS and the ZL1.

The car will be priced at what they think it is worth..... You are not going to get it for "Boss" kind of dollars.

Now is there a Camaro on the horizon that bridges the gap of a SS and ZL1 (Like the boss is to the GT and GT500) Thats the question! Seems like there is a niche to fill!

Someday they'll be able to harvest DNA from the grave of Anna Nicole Smith and sell sexclones to the masses, but I'm not patient enough for that, either.

So it really depends on what you want to spend and if you are willing to wait to see what comes next from GM! I know what I would do but thats just me hoping for a Z/28.....

ZL1 looks really good in silver but i dont like the SSX wheels on it at all. Probably wont be able to afford it so ill stick to going after a used GT500 or new 5.0 or a G8 GT since the wife really wants a g8 lol
