With production starting sometime in early January, when would you assume that the order would go into code 3300? Mid-December?

Mythical question... Totally dependent on allocation. Ask me after you find out when you get an allocation.

If everything was typical... Say you order an SS and it gets picked up next Thursday, October 27. As long as everything checks out, you could jump all the way to 3300 in a few days. That's with the current run tho. 1100-3300 is fast. All that is is checking your order and scheduling your build... Which could be a month or more out. I think they used to give TPW at 3000 but backed it off as that was too soon. Not 100% sure.

Heck, the orders now usually goes 1100 to you driveway in 6 weeks. I would not count on that for the Z.

If you were wondering

Looks like if you make a change, you bump all the way back to 2030!

1100, Preliminary order accepted - this is where you go when you go into the dealer and order. You get you 6 digit number here. For the ZL1, this opens ... let's assume November 3.

2000, Order accepted by GM - this is getting "picked up", meaning your allocation came available. You sit at 1100 until your dealer has an open allocation.

2030, Order re-edited (if necessary)

2051, Order changed thru Web

2500, Order preferenced

3000, Order accepted by production control

3100, Order available to sequence

3300, Order scheduled for production - this is when you get that TPW. Usuall 2-4 weeks out.

3400, Order broadcast - your parts are on the line to be assembled. You guessed it... this occurs (usually) during your TPW or right before.

3800, Order produced - you now have a VIN... And a car to go with it.

4000, Available to ship

4B00, Bayed - AREA 51, QC hold. Could be an hour, could be a month or more. Every single car goes, some don't stay long... others :(

4104, Bailment Invoice - dealer sent invoice for vehicle

4200, Shipped

4300, Intermediate Delivery

5000, Delivered to the dealer

6000, Delivered to the customer

9000, Order Cancelled

Very good info, thanks.

Now I have little light bulb going off in my head. Now I'm going to preface this based off of the assumption that production will start in early January and deliveries would start in February/March. But say there is someone, like myself , who is working with a dealer that does have an allocation (again an assumption) and is the first to order with them but lives up North and really prefers not to take delivery in February/March. It really doesn't make sense, for both mental sanity and financial purposes, for this person to accept delivery in the dead of winter and have to possibly drive home in the snow and immediately store the vehicle for a few months.

Could this person submit his order and then later make a change as a strategy to purposefully delay the production and delivery of his vehicle all the while maintaining his order?

I dont know about Chevy/GM...
but I can say for sure when you order from cisco systems you do not want to place an order on hold....
You order it, corporate wants it to move forward unless you cancel.
I realize we are talking internet equipment vs cars...but... its a business...
Because parts are constrained at times...
For example... lets say you have a SS on order....
and lets say there is a shortage of hoods....
you come in and place your car on hold....
then the way cisco does it cisco could actually take all your parts for your million dollar order and break your equipment down.... freeing parts up to other companys that order..
Ie, your car would be placed on hold, and your car would be torn down....
freeing up parts for other orders....
Based with my prior experience with cisco...
I would not place a hold on my car Gm....
again we are talking about two totally different things...networking equipment vd cars...
But there are some similarities.....a lot in fact...
Someone with GM manf like Mike Judd would probably be best to ask these questions what happens on the manf line when a order is placed on hold. Id be curious to see what he would say..
He might not can tell you anything.... I don't work for cisco any longer and I do not think my non disclosure is still enforceable.. hahaha..

I don't think I would try to manupilate the ordering system in order to delay the delivery. I'd rather try to make a deal with the dealer to hang onto the car one way or the other. Perhaps you could arrange to rent a storage locker near the dealer for a month or two and just have the dealer transport the car to the storage locker for you. Here in tthe Detroit area, I 'm paying $189/month for a 10x30 storage locker. Other sizes vary.
Or you could ask the dealer to process your order using the next months (or two) allocation.

My dealer called me this afternoon and stated that he received confirmation that there will be a Webcast for dealers held on Monday, the 24th, regarding allocation and other relevant information for the ZL1, which is consistent with what we've been led to expect.

I got a call from the dealership yesterday and they said they'd sell me one for MSRP. They've got company wide training for a few days but Wednesday I'm supposed to come in an place an order.

Welcome to our crazy little area of camaro5.com where
we have a ton's of speculations, sprinkled with a bit of
facts here and there. Sounds like you have a pretty good
chevy dealer that knows how to treat Thier customers.
Be sure to post a pic on these forums when you get your
ZL1!!
