Vararam and Nitrous Plate Kit

Has anyone installed a nitrous plate kit while running a Vararam intake? Did you have to trim the intake? How did you get it to fit?

Omg, I was just thinking the same thing. Which plate did you get? Doesn't seem like there's a whole lot of fore-aft clearance for slipping in a plate so am torn between going back to my AEM intake or using a conventional nozzle with the Vararam.

The plate goes between the TB and the intake... it shouldn't get in the way of the Vararam at all.

That's academically correct, but since there's very little clearance in the fore-aft direction, my sense is that you'll bolt the plate in, and then find there's not enough room or give to slip the Vararam tube and coupler back onto the TB.

Mlee, the Vararam goes forward and slips just underneath the upper front cross member, and above the radiator, unlike your ADM(?) which goes forward and to the drivers side. In fact, the upper part of the Vararam seals against that cross member, so pushing the Vararam forward is kinda out of the question since you're just pushing it against that cross member. Btw, I like that stealthy look ya got there

Ahhhh gotcha... I did run a Vararam for a short bit... just didn't think a 1/2" plate would make that much difference, but you're probably right. I'm thinking the hose that fits over the TB would just need to be trimmed back a bit.

Now that I think about it, maybe if that brass fitting that's in the coupler were moved to the intake tube instead, hell, that's about 1/2" right there. Hmmmm...

True!! The latest version of the Vararam is a very tight fit to get in. It will be impossible unless I trim it. Just wondered if anyone else have done it?

Just got both of mine in the mail today (Nitrous Outlet/Vararam Tune). The shop I work at is a dealer for Vararam. Called them before I ordered and they said it would be tight but will work. Will let you know and post some pics when installed. Not using the brass fitting as I will not be using that vacuum line in my setup. Hopefully that will make for a little more clearance.

Please share pictures. Our plate is 3/4 thick. I believe it will fit just fine though.

Will post up pics after the weekend, and thanks for the parts. Plate looks great, and the harness makes the tap in for the TPS super clean. I'm sure after people see mine our shops will be doing some business.

Sorry it's taking so long to update. Unfortunately the car ran into a little misfortune and now has to get some body work and a repaint before i finish putting these on. As soon as it's finished (hopefully just a few more days) I'll make it a priority to get you some installed pics. Thanks for the patience.

Max

We wrecked ours a few months after getting it. Took the body shop 5 months to fix it. I hope you have a better experience.

Mine wasn't too bad. Trans failed and it rolled backwards down a hill through three fences. New rear bumper, a few dings, and a lot of paint. At least now my paint won't have all that orange peal. Shouldn't be more than two more days of work.

Yes sir. Handle was still up when we opened the door. Luckily it was at the track, so the track officials did a report and took pictures before they would even let us touch it. E- brake handle still up, shifter still in gear. Thanks GM

Okay, it was Christmas in October and I got a nice package from Nitrous Outlet yesterday.

Short answer: Academically, the Nitrous Outlet plate fits with a Vararam intake.

This morning before work I was able to install the plate, keeping the Vararam, it wasn't real easy, but then it wasn't real hard either. Not sure if I'll keep the Vararam for the mere fact that everything is so tight without alot of wiggle room.

Items of note:

1. Moved brass barbed fitting to Vararam intake itself.
2. Cut another 4" silicone coupler severely short.
3. Pushed coolant bleeder tube out and down.
4. Rotated 2 hoseclamps (bleeder and upper radiator) to 3 o'clock position
5. MAF is jammed up against the TB motor.
6. No grinding on the waterpump or TB was required, although it is tight.

My waterpump is a Meziere, not sure if those with stock pumps would have to #3, #4 and #6.

Some pics-

Clearance between throttle body inlet and Vararam exit:

MAF clearance (or lack thereof):

Aforementioned clamps/tube:

Looks great! You can route the TPS harness under the throttle body if you want to tuck it away.

What would be "great" would be for you or Chris to come over and install that fuel crossover line! I cannot get a tool into that GM quick release to "release" to save my life. I spent far more time dinking around with the fuel line quick (quick?!?!) disconnect than I did installing the Nitrous Outlet plate!!

...I think it's time to pull out a cutoff wheel (it's not like I'm saving that OEM line anyways). If anyone has a favorite tool, please post the brand and P/N of the tool, because I've had it. If it doesn't work in like 60 seconds, then I swear I'll take a cutoff tool to that mf%@#%$@!$'er.

Weird, I just used a cheap Oriellys special tool to remove the ones off the cars we did installs on with no problems.

Cheap cast aluminum one wouldn't fit, and the plastic one does, but only one half at a time. I might try the anodized aluminum ones, but the cutoff wheel idea is beginning to sound more satisfying.
