JDP V6 VMAX Testing Results

JDP Motorsports was recently sent a V6 VMAX throttle body for testing on our DynoJet 224xLC as well as our driving impressions. We were told not to expect large power gains but the "seat of the pants" feel was supposed to be great. Well......... I was very impressed by the low to mid range power gained from 2000 RPM all the way up to 6000 RPM. We saw up to 12 RWTQ and 8 RWHP at 3000 RPM which is awesome! Most of the time you're driving around town you're not at redline and it is important to understand power below the curve is huge. How often are you at 7000 RPM?

The test car is a 2010 LS manual with an Airaid CAI, SS cat-back with Magnaflow tru-x and 4" Magnaflow Magnapack mufflers. Other than that the car is stock.

Here are the results:

BEFORE:
266.34 RWHP and 234.21 RWTQ

AFTER:
268.83 RWHP and 238.41 RWTQ

I think the power from 2000 - 6500 RPM was really impressive. The next test was to get a feel for it on the street and I was optimistic given the gains we achieved on the Dyno. I did some common side street driving and the car immediately had a lot more response. I then took it onto the freeway and it pulled noticeably harder coming up to speed as well as while in higher gears (2K-6K) RPM.

Based on our initial testing I think this is a GREAT modification for the money and it really opens up power where it counts in the low to upper mid range. We have more cores in process and I'm looking forward to getting them! Thank you to Pete at VMAX for allow us to test this great piece and like the SS VMAX this is a winner!

Kind regards,

Jordan Priestley

I was ready to get one, and then was optimistic, but this changed my mind! Very nice!

Was the 12 RWTQ and 8 RWHP just seen with the VMAX throttle body added, or was that with the other mods included. Just trying to understand since the car was not completely stock.

That was added, but only 2 hp peak, not the 4-5 advertised, maybe due to mods already like all other mods when added together?

The gains I posted were with the addition of the VMAX only. Our initial test was with the Airaid and the modified SS cat-back already on the car. Then we changed to the VMAX and repeated the test within 30-40 minutes and these were the results. The performance difference is crazy for the $$.

I haven't seen them advertised to give 4-5 Peak HP but you certainly get more than that in the low/mid range where it counts IMHO. I know our V8 testing showed 5-6 RWHP and 5-6 RWTQ however.

Vmax has gotten 4-5 peak on their tests and independant. But yes, it is the bottom end where it is needed. It seems all bolt on's react the same way on this engine, more low to mid and less at peak.

Nice! These were our results and as I stated Peak Gains are great but the gain we saw through the entire mid range was impressive. We did get 4 RWTQ at peak on our test but regardless I think for the money this is an outstanding mod!

The increase in HP in general shows that this TB is a fine product. So at the end we thank Pete, Mike, Tracy, Jordan and his team for dedicating some of their valuable time to make us happy !!

Thank you guys. You are awsome !!

Nice writeup. Guess I'm going to have to get one and see if it has any affect on a FI car. I don't think it will, but I may be suprised. It would also be nice to compare it to the one I'm getting from BMWDON just for fun.

The gains are awesome, I would like to know how this translates to real world performance such as 1/4 times and 0-60

I did some 0 - 60 comparisons and posted those results on the other forum. I did a whole write - up over there.

Unfortunately it was not favorable. This can be attributed to the tire psi increasing as I was making my runs, even the road conditions (dusty in some places, causing tire slippage) can come into play. 3 runs were made before install and 3 runs after install. Also, I did not have allot of learn time in before I re-tested with the new TB.

I do plan to be at the track soon again and will see what it does along with the Trifecta Cam phasing tune.

All I can say is that I love my car more than ever. I have "perma grin" when I stomp on the peddle and it just growls and kicks me back into the seat.

Real world results for me were outstanding. My car is a daily driver so the lower end torque and HP is great and I get to use it.

A very good mod for the money. Order one now from my friends at JDP Motorsports!!

I don't want anyone to get me wrong. For $150.00 this is one of the best bangs for the buck. Smoother, crisper acceleration. More HP and TQ where needed for everyday driving.

I for one am happy. My times did not prove this out but I wasn't looking for it to provide huge gains in times either.
