A weld after cats question

I am having a debate with a friend about why my exhaust piping after cats are welded together.

Dynatech LT's, HF cats, Corsa exhaust.

I theorized they are welded there to keep stability, he at first said that it's an H pipe, then X pipe, but I thought X pipes literally were a piped section, and an H pipe had a small pipe section that linked the 2 pipes.

Heres the pics...

That's the X-Pipe. There are holes cut in the tubes and then they are welded together.

Yeah, thats a cheap x-pipe, like most exhaust systems have.
Doesn't really do much for performance compared to a true x-pipe from Magnaflow.

The Magnaflow Tru-X is a real x-pipe, designed for better exhaust gas scavenging, noise cancellation and better balance between cylinder banks, which adds up to more power!

Is that the Corsa for the LS3? The Corsa for the L99 is completely different.
