Angry noise -trans or clutch

I got rid of my 2010 R.S., that had 5,000 miles as i hated the man, trans.-was like driving a 1985 S/10 2WD Pickup/-lol .--currently found a sweet deal on a 2010 SS,with 2,000 miles for 29,000, and i love it.--Only thing now is the noise i hear.-in neut, and let clutch out with windows up there is some what i call throw out bear noise ???, which ive been ignoring, but now the major rattle ?- which i describe as loose exaust clamp type noise, or cat conv insides have come apart.- seems it is more evident if you are on gas lightly like your conserving fuel or driving like a old man.- happens the most when going from 1 to second,-went to dealer today that will agree to look at, and they drove with me and at that time was fine. -- im thinking the rattle is pressure plate, but i thought i ask,, and what is normal amount of noise when you let out clutch in neut, that i here with windows up ?? - goes away when you push clutch in.- does the SS have a commom problem with these

Yeah they're noisy trannys; same for the mustangs, vipers, etc that use these trannys. Its tough to type on the internet what "normal" noise is as it varies with each person. I can say I've driven/owned 5 different manuals and none ever had noise like this one at low speeds disengaging. I don't normally get any noise when just cruising very slow in 1st. Only when I depress the clutch.

Get a real loud exhaust then you'll never hear it.

Carl, what you might want to do is to get into contact with our Customer Assistance team so they can help you in working with your dealer. Also you could try suggesting that your dealer check with our Technical Assistance team to see if there's anything in our database that might help with this. If you need help contacting Customer Assistance let me know.

Ok, well what you can do is send me your contact information and I can setup the case for you or you can call 1-800-222-1020 and they can get you all setup and call your dealer for you. I hope this helps.

This is a very well known issue. There are several threads about the clutch rattle noise. According to GM, this is normal operation, and they will not fix it. That is what my dealer said, as well as several others...

None at all, only took about 300 mile approx and all started and is getting worse.- I PREDICT IT WILL BLOW UP LIKE A GRENADE BEFORE THE DEALER CAN GET IT IN 3 WEEKS. [SORRY FOR CAPS] -- Car Has been babied since it was new, never even saw rain, and me and my wife drive it like were a couple of 60 year olds, lol,, and the trans is fallen apart.- and shifter is so loose i expect it to fall off.-- I THINK GM SHOULD AuTHORIZE a R & R,, under my condition and car only having 4,000 mile.-It's-def poor workman ship issue for sure ON GM.--Where i work, [chrysler] if i bought say a new chalenger right now and i got to 4,000 miles and had this issue it would deff be a R&R ,,as chry wants alot of this stuff back so as to take it apart and find out what went wrong and to correct the issue . for customer satisfaction,,,so as to actually fixing isues and not just having a dealer take apart and replace parts, and never finding out what is causing the issue's in first place..-- guess gm doesnt care about what they need to do to fix the manule tran;s issues except for,, just have a tech, r&r parts.------I myself have worked for V.W, Ford, and now Chrysler [21 years] --and they all would if there was issue with say thier man tran in a certain veh, they would want the tech to R&R, untill they [engineers] found the problem;s and corrected ,then they would let the dealer fix the tran's with the up date of what to do to fix correctly, -not just throw new parts in just like what came out.--After working next to many tech's the worst thing i hated was one that thru parts at a veh one after another, untill he/she got it right.--And thats all gm is doing with our issues

Well waiting for the dealer may not be the worst thing...if it does in fact grenade then you will probably get a whole new transmission. To me though it sounds like the throwout bearing is howling or the clutch pressure plate is loosening up. Chances are it will get a new throwout bearing and pressure plate and clutch disk. How does it shift? If the transmission shifts fine and this is just in the clutch assembly, then that is all they should replace IMO.

Well my gm guy on my case, sent me to another dealer so as to get veh in quicker.--i just left there and they told me they will order the new upper part of my shifter that is loose, --But that the noise i call a imput shaft bearing noise is normal ?? - He said if your in neutral and let out clutch the noise im hearing is just the main shaft turning in the manull, transmission, and that they all [SS] make that noise---So guys warm up your car and trans, and turn everything off with windows up and quiet, and tell me if you get the main shaft in the trans turning noise.,, just curios, --wish he could of proved it to me with diff, veh so i would be satisfied

I don't hear a noise when its in neutral other than the engine idling. I would think if its making a bad noise it could be the throwout bearing or something like that. Chevy really doesn't like admitting to any issues in the tranny for some reason.

well its not real loud but, when its cold like it is here today, 45.-- it is quiet untill warmed up [trans] -- pedal down, and neutral idle you dont here untill you start to reliese clutch in neutal at idle, and complete releise of pedal.--- Dealer said its the normal noise they all make and its the main shaft turning.?? ---start to push down pedal to reliese clutch 3/4 way down,, and goes away.- if it is normal, i say it;s the main shaft turning, -if not normal,, sounds more like imput shaft bearing.--thro out bearing usually is opposite ??-- Anyone else hear the noise in thiers when warm and at idle and clutch reliesed ?????

What have you done?
In neutral there should be no noise.

ive done nothing to car if thats what ya mean-- Dealer said normal main shaft turning noise, so i should lift up shift console and stuff insulation under it so as not to hear rotating noise when you let out clutch in neutal and the main shaft starts turning.-- Told them bearing gone ,,,but as usuall gm dealer doesnt want to fix.-- SENT A LETTER TO MY GM GUY HANDLLING the case.
