I'm SO IN for a mod to make it harder to open on accident. Mine is open on average about 1 time a month. Fortunately, it only pops up a little and does not fly all the way up. Most people wouldn't even notice that it is up. And the trunk popping makes quite a bit of noise, so I KNOW it is not happening when I'm walking away or to the car. My office is 2 stories up and on the other side of the building and it still happens. It used to happen more before me moved my team across the hall (when I was just above the parking lot).

Subscribing. Put me an PM list if there is one!

I've never had this happen, either! Not even once.

yeah really, i want to know how common this is? i mean really, if you're worried about accidentally pressing the trunk button, aren't you at least as concerned about accidentally hitting the unlock button?

Take key fob, with a razor lift trunk access, rip out button to open trunk, enjoy.

Have never done this that I know of, nor I have hit the panic button. I have an LT M6. The trunk release button is double-wide and in the middle, making it way easier to press accidentally (I suppose).

I'm almost at that point, but it would take much more careful surgery than THAT to accomplish the goal and leave the rest of the buttons functional.

I wonder if the dealer can program the car to ignore fob trunk commands?

All this being said...is it possible that the fob button is NOT responsible for all of this random trunk activity? Is the Camaro maybe somehow sensitive to some environmental (random radio waves, EMP, etc.) issue that is popping the trunk?

How is the trunk coming open? I never had an issue with mine opening... And if you look at the fob it's not the highest point...but whatever.

I think the whole fob thing is BS, Thats one thing i really hated about my car was the darn flip out euro-crap fob.. yuck.

lol i should change my clothing just to avoid this problem? ludicrous. its not like i have skin tight jeans. GEEz. but i do believe more of the guys with the m6 do have the problem because the key fob is set up differently without the auto start button. Ill be waiting for the double tap.

Over 24k miles and this has never happened to me. But on the oddball chance that it could happen, I find the double tap relay setup to be a great idea.

Where exactly is the relay mounted at? I looked and couldn't find it.

Left of the dash padding, there is a cover on the left that snaps off. You can access it when the drivers door is fully opened. Grasp the bottom corner of the cover, then pull out. There are three snaps that hold it in place, along with the back of it tucked under the door weatherstripping. The top snap is the toughest one to pull out; it's a metal spring clip. The others are easier, made of plastic.

To access the relay, you really don't need to pull the cover completely off. You can reach under the cover to get the relay. It's in about the center of the fuse panel.

Just simply buy a remote cover that makes the buttons indented and it won't happen again.
Here is an example of the cover.

Yeah, that was my first thought. Surround the fob with silicone. So I tried that...

Problem with those silicone covers is, they make the remote even larger (it feels like I have a golf ball in my pocket already). And, the silicone makes the remote sticky. Very difficult to get the keys out of your pocket with the silicone attached.

I gave up on those Chinese silicone gloves.

Never had this problem, 1LT auto. Could it be an electronic problem and not in the pocket thing?

I've had this happen many times.
Usually getting in or out of the car while I'm holding the key fob.
What a pain in the you know what!!
A few of our club members also complain of the same problem.
One of them owns a Charger and said it requires you to push it twice to open.
He said he's never had the problem with that car.

Good idea. I have one issue with it though. If you pull the relay, which is probably a 30 amp relay, and replace it with a transistorized electronic circuit, how long before it burns out from repeated high loads? Seems like you may be able to extend the hight of the relay, cause there's plenty of room by the fuse panel, and add a circuit to to trip a high capacity relay instead of just a transistor. Looks like a great job but just iffy on the longevity.

How is this happening? I never had this problem with my G8 fob. You have to hold down the button for a while for the trunk to open...

Can you pull out the fuse for the trunk release? Just askin'!!! I did have this happen several times. I had it in my pants pocket a couple of times and in my jacket pocket a couple of times. So I had to stop get out and close the trunk.

Transistor is rated at 10 amps, and the trunk release only draws 2 amps. The transistor will last the lifetime of the car...doesn't even come close to maxing out the circuit. The factory relay is a standard 20 amp four pin relay.

You can pull the fuse, but,

Pulling the fuse won't allow the trunk to open - ever. Now if you don't use the trunk, well, then the fuse pull will solve any potential problem.
