Suggestion: Remove posts from off-topic and general auto section from post count

Self explanatory. LS1tech does this, as do many other tech-oriented sites.

I also recommend a requirement of 50 posts, or 3 months of membership to list/post anything in the for sale section. This is doable with this BB software. Most other sites have something similar, weeds out spam and crooks.

I dont see a point to the first part of the suggestion. What if someone comes to this site looking or is going to get a camaro and posts in those sections. They are enjoying the site and the friendship of the site.

The second part of the suggestion I can validity to.

Cheers

I'm pretty sure C5 moderators and admins have already said they will not be removing post count from the OT section.

Such posts have little or no merit towards anything camaro or technical related. Thats the point.

I hope my last post didn't come off as rude. I just reread it and it didn't sound like I wanted it to.

I think one of the reasons were because a lot of members (like me) would lose thousands of posts.

I would say yes when someone posts 20 TY's in one thread.

To me it's quality not quantity.

And like moderators have said before, it won't stop the one worded postings. So if our post counts bother you, simply don't look.

Why does it bother you that someone has sniffer number than you? Are you this bothered by other owner's have more rwhp than you?

By excluding a specific forum from contributing to an individual's post count, it effectively lends a "meaning" to the post count myth.

Outside of the minimum count to sell idea, which we'll have to look into...we don't much care about post count.

What the H-E- double hockey stripes is the deal with post count envy or post count hatred. Am I missing something about Post counts that will help one open the pearly gates when they die...or is each posting good for an entry into some lotto somewhere?

I do not understand, nor care, about anyone's post count on any forum...yet this is probably the 100th mention on this site. WHY?

we said we've discussed it and at the time have chosen not to remove OT from post counts

its a question that has come up on numerous forums. a lot of forums have it set up where the off topic section is just that, off topic and doesnt add to your post count. its a place for members to come and relax and BS with each other.

other forums have it like we do where anywhere you post counts towards your count.

as far as a post "contest", there is and there isnt such a thing. sometimes, people will look to a members post count as a reference to how much they've contributed to the forum. while thats normally not a bad thing, occasionally the people with super high post counts dont spend any time outside of a certain subforum and dont contribute a whole lot to anywhere else.

that being said, its a web forum. we have word games where people only post one word per post and there are members who have literally tens of thousands of posts in those threads and those threads only. we have members who dont stray too far out of the regional sections, and others who rarely go outside the general section, then there are others who spend most of their time in the technical section.

we've got a wide variance of members on here and we do our best to appeal to everyone.
