Chevy Camaro evidently nabs Microsoft Zune support

"You've heard of Chevrolet, right? You know -- that struggling automaker underneath the General Motors umbrella? For those who've long given up their ties to muscle cars in favor of the kid-friendly minivan or Earth-friendly hybrid, you may not even know that a revitalized Camaro is just around the bend. Based on some hands-on time with a production vehicle at an undisclosed dealer, Microsoft's Zune integrates perfectly into the sound system, and said integration is supposedly a standard feature on the car. What's more is that we're told some 27 other GM models will also include Zune support from the factory as they launch in the US, Europe, Asia and Australia through 2011, though details beyond that are scant. Hope they cooked in support for the Zune HD, ya dig?"

http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/11/c...-zune-support/

I do not have a ipod, so it looks like I will be getting a zune!!

Zunes are amazing. Had one before I bought the iPhone which I use for basically everything now. I'd much rather have a Zune than an iPod, though.

I think sales numbers would say otherwise.

Don't like the Zune but this is good for those that have one. Good job GM!

i have only messed with a zune like twice, and not for very long, it was hard to navigate compared to an iPod, just about anyone can pick it up and use it with out any problems. the hardest thing is turning it off. i mean, really? hold play=off?

I test drove a car on Saturday May 9th. Salesman said there was an Ipod port in the console....I guess I'll wait for the Owner's Manual for clarification...

Its a USB port, it supports many platforms (including the iPod, Zune, even Hard Drives and Flahs Drives)

Sales Numbers are useless... the mustang is probably going to have higher sales numbers than the Camaro... Does that make it better? I think not

Many would argue that it is. They must be doing something right to sell that many.

It's actually pretty stupid of GM to go with the Zune. Their market share is a joke so you are trying to put in something that benefits very few people.

Why all the hate for the Zune? It's just another player in the market. I know plenty of people that own ipods and hate them but keep buying them to replace broken ones because all of their music is tied to iTunes. If you know anyone with an ipod, ask them how many they have purchased and how long they lasted before they stopped working.

As for the PDIM functionality, GM isn't tying it to the Zune or ipod or any other specific brand of portable music player. It is a personal device interface module that supports many different devices, including your basic USB flash drive.

I agree,it jst so happens that the author of that article owns a Zune.It supports the ipod/iphone just as well as the zune or a flash drive.

I've have two iPods and one is over a year old and the other is about 3 years old no issues at all.

Thanks for the clarification about interface. I read it as it was specifically designed for the Zune. I knew an iPod would work on it but wasn't sure if all the features would be carried over.

This really isn't a good idea. This is just another blunder on GMs part. Zunes may work great but they are about as popular as a sandisk mp3 player. Fact of the matter is Itouch and Iphone have litteraly revolutionalized the handheld market. If you disagree then you have never even touched one or you already had your mind made upbefore you tried it out. There is nothing, and I really do mean nothing, that comes CLOSE to and Iphone or Itouch.

Yes, Kdoske you are right. The Zune is a really cheap and badly made version of the iPOD. The Zune is #2. For the guys that want to play your mp3's in the camaro, buy the iPOD. A nano is $150 and a iTouch is $229. I don't mean to be mean towards any of you.

Yep, its never a good idea to add options for free. I mean god forbid it be compatible with ipod and zune.

well don't misquote me now. Im not saying a zune is JUNK im sure its finely crafted. I'm just saying Technologically speaking zune is to tandy 1000 as Iphone/Itouch is to NASA super computer.

Oh and for the record, i really do hate Mac's but I will give it to em with the Iphone, its incredible.

Well the way the articles written it sounds like they teamed up with microsoft for zune support. Im just saying, if your gonna go this extra mile why not do it with the product that has monopolized the market.
