Painted tail light bezels & bowties (update PICS)

Hey guys, been searching around and needed some advice. Going to paint my tail light bezels, bowties, RS emblems and the side camaro emblems.
I'm gonna buy color matched SIM paint for the bowties, painting part SIM and part flat black. Also gonna paint the chrome part of the RS emblems flat black and leave the red inside.

Question is, should i use automotive flat black paint for the bowties since half is flat black and half will be the automotive SIM matched paint or does it not matter? I guess if i use primer and not the flat black to prime under the SIM for bowtie i should be fine right?

Gonna paint tail light bezels now with flat black and do bowties once i can get the SIM paint. Just want same flat black so if i should use automotive flat black i'll get that when I can or I'm guessin dupli color and adhesion promoter would be best and i'll get that now an do bezels asap.
Thanks! is duplicolor flat black the best to use? I want a good durability (which i know relies mostly on prep)

Actually, i just did my bezels last night on my SIM. I too did flat black.
The best paint to use is actually Rust'Oleom (or however you spell it) It's made specifically for automotive platics and can be used indoor/outdoor.

Another great thing is it doesn't require any primer (says so right on the can)

I scuffed the chrome first with 600 grit, cleaned off, one LIGHT coat of sray, and then 2-3 actual coats. I only waited 10-15 minutes between coats and it turned out great!

Let me know if you need more advice, ill see if i can find a pic of the paint i used.

I used regular Rusto flat black on mine...

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...45#post3780045

If I would do it over again I would do the flat black first on everything. THEN tape up the bowties and cut centers out, then sand a little, then do the color matched paint x4 coats and done an extra 4 coats of clear coat. I did only 4 coats of clear, and I did it too lite. I didn't think it would be that noticable but the rest of the car looks glossy compared to the bow tie... be sure to post some pics to show us how you did. Good luck! It's fun!

I did mine last night, but I used plastidip because I wasnt sure if id like the flat on my black SS. They came out great. i pressure washed them today to see if it would hold up and it did. I can always go back to chrome without any problems.

No idea how to get shot out from falling by bumper. I lost a clip down there. I cleaned mine with rubbing alcohol before paint

Cleaned with alchohol then painted with the suggested paint. noticed either a few dirty or orange peel spots now that they are dry and I inspected them but are very minor. I will still probably sand smooth and do 1 more coat tomorrow even though its barely visible. I painted them in a dark area so it was hard to see ah well, will do a final coat in the garage with some lights (took bezels to work to paint). Now gotta wait till tomorrow to finish may start on RS emblems tonight

I did this same thing last week.
>>Ordered a SS emblem for the blacked out rear panel.
>>I also silver painted the triangle plastsi pieces inside the trunk
>>Took my bowtie off the front, and vinyl blacked it out.
>>removed the SS from the trunk, and the Camaro from both fenders.

Debating if I want to remove the small SS from the grill?
all on a silver ice metallic also!

That turned out well.

Mine were black for a while but I painted over them with CGM and a clear coat. I think it's better with the darker color I have. I liked them chrome until I tinted the lights.
