Help????struts sticking up about 1 inch????

I just changed my oil, no biggy, jacked up from front crossmember, plenty of metal, put jack stands in appropriate places, lowered vehicle to start up, and noticed the car wasn't as low as before. It was physically lower to the ground before the oil change, I know because it was hard to get the jack under neath it! Then after letting the jack down after the oil change, it was noticeable higher off the ground, looking at it from above I noticed the strut towers rubber bushings were about 3/4 to and inch above the strut tower??? I tried jacking it back up and letting it back down, driving it and the bushings still are sticking up. The car seems to be lower again, but the strut tower rubber pieces are still not sitting flush anymore?

What in the he'll did I do?? I didn't do anything unusual, just jacked it up like you jack up a car, nothing is bent, or out of place, drives fine, no noises, do those struts move that much??? Anyone seen this??

They do stick up quite a bit when the wheels are straight. it was high because of the independent front suspension. The car needed to roll a little bit to settle.

The struts do stick up quite a bit. Get some Rhino ramps, much easier than jacking up the car for the oil changes. I think you should be good to go. Did you remember to reset the DIC after the oil change?

They never sit flush... those pics are 100% correct. The shock tops are not actually attached to the car. If they were, it would ripe your car apart. Turn your wheel fuul right and look, then full left, they NEED to move!!! You're all good!! Happy motoring!

When you jacked up the car, the wheels hung and the shocks went to full extension... maybe the rubber came out of the perch, maybe it stuck... no big deal either way. When you re-weighted the car, the shocks/springs take a bit to settle back in.

Youre no losing your mind, it was likely higher but after a few miles, everything seats back into where it wants to be and all is good in the world again!

I was freaking out, I swear they were flush the last time i noticed them!

You already know the strut gaps are normal. So is your Camaro sitting higher after it has been lifted. The front wheels hang out when lifted. When set back down the camber is off creating a temporary increase in ride height. Roll her forward or backward a couple of feet and she'll sit back down to normal ride height.

ya, it sat back down after driving a few minutes....the funny thing was that I googled "strut tower popped up" and got some horrific story about struts coming completely off a car....lol

I know they travel, and I know there was nothing I could have done to screw them up, but when you see something like this, its pretty convincing!

This scared the hell out of me as well. I put Pfadt springs in my car 2 minutes after I picked it up. When I sat the car back down I was like, "oh crap I just screwed up my brand new car" lol! I've been wrenching for years and just never noticed this. I was sure there was something wrong. New fangled suspensions.

Exact same response, and I too have been wrenching for many years....
