The new Mustang is coming without a doubt in 2015 MY for the 50th anniversary. So logic says the Gen6 Camaro will wait 1 year to make tweaks based on the new Mustang. So I'm thinking a mid model Gen5 refresh will be the 2013 model. This way you have 3 model years with the original setup and 3 years on the refresh. Hopefully us Gen5 owners will only see 6 model years versus 10 model years for the current Mustang.

It doesn't work that way, 2012 MY had a slight refresh with the interior and beefier suspension for the SS. Also according to the mods on GMinsidenews the camaro is getting a refresh for the 2014MY. If that is true than no way the 6 gen come out the very next year. Also the Cadillac ATS is going to influence the 6 gen camaro faaaaaar more than the next mustang, let's not forget that it is the camaro that is leading the segment.

I'll build a special edition none GM sanctioned Z28 for someone if they want.
We will upgrade the suspension and engine (427) as well and badge it with old school insignia. Aftermarket wheels are an option. The 427 will make 540/520 hp tq minimum
pm me if your interested

It sounds like a nice car but a Z/28 that is not from Chevy is not quite the same thing.

As to an "unworthy" Z/28, I assure you that will NOT happen. It'll either be "right", or the name won't be used...

Stay tuned...
I was going to read through the thread...formulate my response...but this, this hit the nail on the head.

Personally, I think that if the ZL1 is priced at $55K+, there will be plenty of room in the lineup for something between the SS and the ZL1.

Just look at the Ford Mustang product line.

V6 Mustang-GT/V8-Boss(Higher HP N/A V8)-GT500(F/I V8 with very high HP)

The GT500 is around 20%-25% more expensive compared to the Boss. And the Boss is 20%-25% more expensive compared to the GT. GT500 is almost 50% more expensive than the GT V8. I'm talking about starting price of course.

If GM price the Camaro line similarly, then we should see the ZL1 being about 50% more expensive compared to SS, which starts in the lower 50K range. Maybe 52 or 53.

Still a huge gap between the ZL1 and SS, like a 17K gap.

I doubt GM will leave this huge gap between the ZL1 and SS.
Plus, with all the MR and tweaks they did for the ZL1, R&D cost for the Z28 will be much lower if they use some ZL1 parts and technology.

True...but why not use it for a couple of years before the generation changes...hence, bring out the new platform with a new engine for the 6th generation...bringing a stronger line-up to the camaro that already has pricing set for the next gen., as well as, performance.

Plus, it can be a limited run for a year or two not just to test the market per say but to hold out for mass production in the 6th generation. Would help them eat up the LS7s and not have to have a mass production of the engine.

Isn't the boss a limited run right now?

You think the Camaro is ugly? I agree however, the Z28 is going to have to look less cluttered in the fascia than the ZL1. I sculpted that fascia by hand, made the lower lip that resembled the 2nd Gens front air dam. This design was based off of the original 2006 Camaro, that is why it looks more rounded and flowing than the blocked off production version. I also shaved a lot of mass from the cars rear and sides, making it appear smaller...

I love the how the Mustang looks, its not totally a muscle car as it has a lot of "sport" in it... something I think a Z28 needs.. to look like an athlete, not a body builder. To look like a fighter plane instead of an Sherman tank... The Camaro is becoming more and more square, the ZL1 looks like a bulldozer, they need to keep the panels closer to the structure and perhaps lose some weight in the process.

Besides, why build a Z28 to compete with the Boss 302? This is the Boss 302's last year. Maybe there could be a replacement just as there has been in the past (Mustang GT-R, FR500).. who knows... Maybe replace it with a class name they compete in, GT, GS, GTS, GTR, GT3, GT4, GT5... Need something non-retro because in 2 years, Ford is going to turn the word "retro" into a bad word.

Give it the ZL-1 suspension and a LS7. That would be a rocking Z28.

It would rock, but it would probably cost if not as much, almost as much as a ZL1.

ZL1 suspension not SCCA legal. a Z28 should be able to compete (minus some safety things) in SCCA races.
