So I'm anxious for an update on my Camaro, so I called GM to get the latest.

The girl (Serena) on the other phone said : "You got lucky; I'm a real Car Girl...!".

I gave her my Vin (2 G1FT1EW 6 A 9101080). She already had my dealer code and order number up on her screen. She said "Wow you're getting the 2SS....!" She was really nice on the phone and shared my enthusiam for sure, but then went out of her way to give me as much information as she could. In other words, GREAT Customer service, Serena! GOOD JOB, GM!

The build date was April 3rd! I am now waiting for a call back on shipping. I assume they still have to do more things to it (like stripes) and then there's that 1-week wait I read about somewhere else on this bbs. Looks like its on-time for an early May delivery! WOOT!

4/3 build date?

That can't be right?
They were farther along than that long before last Friday.
Where did you get that info?

She just told me this on the phone. And what do you mean by they were further long? You mean the Vin #? Do they build cars in order of their Vin? I would have guessed differently..

Has anyone confirmed where in the process the VIN actually gets assigned? I wonder if maybe it gets assigned at a certain point, but the car is not "finished"... i.e. maybe it still has to go through testing, etc...? Also we would need to know at what point the official "build date" is assigned... date of starting, or day of finishing the build? So many variables!

No, the Vin's are not sequential...

In my plant (not GM), VINs are assigned as soon as the body begins to be welded up.
The body shop is the first step in producing a vehicle.

24-36 hours later, the vehicle is rolling into the lot ready for shipment.

I have to say the Canadian CSR's are EXTREMELY helpful !! The lady I was in contact with ( Mary ) was calling me weekly to give me updates

I'll be sure to keep a look out for you Mark

I have had my VIN since March 26th (almost 2 weeks) and according to GM CSR Serena (Give this girl a raise!), BUTTERS was born born April 3rd, about 1 week later. I am pretty sure they assign VIN numbers ahead of time (sounds effecient to me), but I don't think they are built in order as MerlinZero said.

Anyway, GMCSR SERENA said she would call back later today with an update. Honestly I am not expecting the call but if I actually get it I will be pleasantly surprised. (Will post here too).
