Knockout, you can tell a difference. All of my speakers in my car have replaced with aftermarket speakers. I don't even use any of the power from the Head unit, it all comes from the amps. The primary reason for replacing your head unit is the noise to signal ratio can be matched with the higher HU. If your stock HU is outputting 100, but your speakers are rated to over that you will never get the maximum out of your system.

I had to send in my dash kit to alpine for a recall, and had to put my stock head unit back in, I was still using the amps and subs, but I could never turn it up all the way with the stock head unit. I would get some distortion or also know as THD, total harmonic distortion. If I turned them up in volume, I would risk damaging my subs and speakers. So I just played it without cranking it. I hope I explained it correctly, this is how it was explained to me, my installer basically said don't crank it up real hard and you will be fine.

If you have your gains set properly you should be able to crank it. But good to know. I have my stock Mylink HU in and have some nice Rockford speakers all the way around. They sound great. But Mylink only is 22watt rms. Was thinking about adding a 2nd amp for the speakers. Not sure if I should though because I'm using the pac gm44 unit which is a loc that will support 2 amps.

I've got 2 12 Sundown SD subs running off a JL JX1000/1D. Also have a JL XD 400/4 running the factory speakers for now.

Nice, are the 12s overkill for the factory speakers and the XD 400/4? Thinking of getting 2 12s too, and wondering if I really need to swap out the factory speakers.

I got my Alpine back in my system now, so it isn't an issue. I was only out for 4 weeks. That was over a year ago.

Who makes your box? Is it custom built yourself?

Audio HELP 2014 ZL1

I recently traded in my 2012 45th Anniversary Camaro SS for a 2014 ZL1. I need immediate opinion of where and if I can keep my factory Head unit with Navigation and add my 10" pro box sub and Focal Door Component Speakers without loosing my OnStar & talking on my Bluetooth thru my speakers. I really want to keep my bluetooth capabilities and factory head unit but this one Audio installer said that I haft to loose my on star and ability for my cell to come thru my speakers. I need your input if anyone has just added door speakers / back speakers & amp JL Audio 900/5 HD

Here is a pic of my 45th with the pro box installed (Sound Unreal!!)

Any other pics of your setup? Build process? Or trunk view? Or box sitting outside your car?

Here's a link to my stereo thread:
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=327663

All the details of the build are there, lots of pictures. I built the box inside the trunk and actually used the trunk lid to complete the box so there are no pictures of the box outside the trunk. It's a unique design but it worked out great.

Nothing special like I had in my old truck, here's a thread I just found from a while ago when I had it, had 2 15" Rockford P3's and tuned the box to 20hz, that was fun!
