Resonator delete question

When you have your resonators deleted (this means cut out, correct?), do you need to put something in place of them? I'm taking my car to the shop to get just an axle-back exhaust put on and was going to have them delete the resonators, also. Do I need to buy something to put in their place or how does that work? Can I go to the shop with just my car and say "delete the resonators?"

If you couldn't tell.....I'm a newbie.

Thanks.

my friend did it and the way he explained it to me is they weld a piece of pipeing in where the resonators were. i dont remeber the demensions of the pipe you just have to make sure the shop has the write size pipe

They are tucked up in the "tunnel" and as long as what you put back in fits you are OK. I cut mine off and subbed in an x-pipe with clamps to see if I was going to like it, then had it welded in later. If you ever want to put it back, make sure it is cut far enough away from the factory welds to replace; also makes cutting it easier. On the V6 the piping should be 2.25 inches and V8 should be 2.5 inches, but measure it to be sure.
I took it for test runs at each stage - exhaust off, resonators cut, connector pipe on then with full system back together. The closer the outlet is to you the louder in car it ends up. I'd go with straight pipe back to the system you choose. Make sure they drop it from the converters if they weld it back, so they don't melt your carpet.

Thanks for the help guys!

I'll check with the shop I'm getting my exhaust put on (it's a pro custom cars shop, not an exhaust shop) to see if they have what I would want on in place of the resonators and if not I'll take it later to an actual exhaust shop.
