Diode in the orange ignition wire?

Wondering why that my ignition wire has been cut and has a diode in the wire going to the harness?

This was a short cut to disable the pass key system on some gm cars security systems.

this. IMO if it works dont mess with it. passkey is a pita to get around (without destroying things).

Would be interesting to see a pic if you can get one. It does sound like some type of VATS bypass.

are you sure its not a resistor? The VATS keys just have chip resistors in them. If you have a key cut and its either the wrong value, or from another GM car that doesnt use VATS, it wont start. If it is a diode, maybe it was to keep something from backfeeding?
