Tinted Side Marker Legal??

I'm interested in getting my side markers tinted. I think stealth tint is the one I want. Has anyone had trouble passing inspection or getting tickets because of tinting their side markers? Thanks for the feedback!

I think if your car is equipped with them you have to have them. I have heard of people getting them with the led side markers because the reflector is gone. Stupid ticket I know.

My side markers , DRL's & Backup lights are blacked out stealth. Zero issues. Honestly i think you run into more issues when you do it to the brake lights. That gets too much attention even though it looks good. Not the safest thing in the world but, side markers i doubt anyone will care.

Legal in California..... reflectorized sidemarkers are rarely an issue. It's colored lights to the front and rear that is illegal. In California you can only have white or amber showing to the front and red or amber to the rear. The back up light doesn't count. California has some of the most asinine equipment restriction of all 50 states.

If we are just talking sidemarkers and them alone, I doubt you would get a ticket....can't say I have ever looked to enforce that unless like Darkness said you have blue lights in there place (those are my colors lol).
You will however (or should) have an issue with safety inspection. The design of the side light is Federal DOT approved with a reflector in it. This is done in case the light bulb blows out and it goes unnoticed for a period of time. During turning movements that you make during the nighttime hours at least someone will be able to see the red and/or amber reflection noticing that you are turning in front of them.... which may allow them time to slow down before they run you the hell over cause you just pulled out in front of them ha ha.
Another C5 member moved to my State a short time ago and he asked me to look at his mods prior to him registering and inspecting his vehicle here. He has a SIM like mine. He covered his side markers and reverse lights with silver vinyl. I told him it looked cool but it was going to have to be removed prior to inspection or it wouldn't pass and I was right, they made him take it off.

Side marker lights are required for all cars 1968 and later. All cars made from then have them from the factory.

Why do people black everything out? Those are there so people can see your car.

I just tinted the sidemarkers and fog lights last week on my wifes and it looks great. I used the VHT spray tint you can vary the darkness by how many coats you apply. I went dark on the sidemarkers (4 coats) and light on the fog lights (2) coats. It gets addicting, I was trying to find other things to spray.

Just tint them with vinyl, just dark enough to hide the ugly orange & red markers on side of your car in the day. But still will reflect in day or night

Did you pull this from your butt mister? Most cars don't have side markers.

Ignorance......all cars have side markers.

Either it wraps around the car and is on the headlight or individual like our cars....

If it's on the the front it isn't a SIDE marker.

It was also edited in after... SMH. Don't get uppity with me dude. Act like a civilized person and use a little respect. Also, JUST so you know, i just some research and found that you don't need them, an amber bulb will pass inspection just the same. Thank you, and have a nice day.

"In North America, amber front and red rear sidemarker lamps and retro-reflectors are required. The law initially required lights or retro-reflectors on vehicles made after 1 January 1968. This was amended to require lights and retro-reflectors on vehicles made after 1 January 1970.[29] These side-facing devices make the vehicle's presence, position and direction of travel clearly visible from oblique angles.[29] The lights are wired so as to illuminate whenever the vehicles' parking and taillamps are on, including when the headlamps are being used.[5] Front amber sidemarkers in North America may or may not be wired so as to flash in sync with the turn signals.[30] Sidemarkers are permitted outside North America, but not required. If installed, they are required to be brighter and visible through a larger horizontal angle than US sidemarkers, they may not flash, and they must be amber at the front and rear unless the rear sidemarker is incorporated into the main rear lamp cluster, in which case it may be red or amber.[15] Some Japanese, European, British and US-brand vehicles have sidemarkers in Europe and other countries where they are not required."

Cool

With our kits, the reflectors still function, even in bright afternoon sunshine.

Dark Stealth Smoke (darkest material available)
