The discussion between the two rivals is healthy IMO. Its best to look at the two cars objectively and realize the good points and shortcomings of each one.
I am relieved to hear that Chevy did see that Ford would up the ante on their GT500 (Ford would almost have to respond to the impending greatness of the ZL1). I firmly believe, since Chevy threw their hat into the ring with the ZL1, that ultimately the ZL1 will need to respond to the latest challenge from the GT500. It remains to be seen whether the ZL1 would need to tack on the entire 70 hp difference. Whatever the outcome will be, I encourage Chevy (and Ford for that matter) to continue to promote, improve, and excite this segment with their camaro and mustang. It is a great time in the american performance field for these cars and the enthusiasts. The ZL1-GT500 war may go down as one of the fiercest battles in automotive history. More for us enthusiasts I say.

I am not surprised in the least bit to hear about this new 650hp mustang. I would be more surprised if they didn't respond. Some see it as a bad thing for chevy, but I think its great. All it means is more to come from both ford and chevy, maybe even dodge.
It always seems that ford is always quick to respond to camaro with somthing new. But as was stated earlier, it is their halo car. So thats really their only thing to keep working on. While gm has z06 and zr1, and ctsv on top of the camaro. Speaking of I wonder if ford has tested this mustang on the ring, curious as to what times it would do. I really really doubt it could better the camaro. |

I think there is a lot of potential in the next decade, depending on what happens with cafe standards...
Anyways check out this ruthless beating I take on a daily basis, half way down the page is when it gets "really" good.. http://www.baylordrivingclub.com/for...ead.php?t=8536

The Stang is Ugly. No amount of power or low cost will make that go away.

Right on the money! Nobody has driven one yet but they have declared a winner. I'm sorry but a lot of you guys are hard to take. My advice ----- drive both, then talk. (not the opposite).

Only thing Ford isn't winning is the sales race..... 5.0 faster all the way around than a SS. What Camaro competes with the Boss again? GT500? C'mon man... Ford created this segment... CHEVY has been playing copycat for the entire time.. You guys should be thanking Ford for the Mustang and GT500 or you wouldn't even have a Camaro let alone ZL1. I remember when I got my 03 Cobra all the Camaro guys were complaining that "Ford had to use a supercharger" blah blah blah... Guess if you can't beat them, join them...

I would agree with that. I think the competition is great for both sides.

a few years ago an NFL player got hit by a car and hurt while riding his hyabusa, the news flipped out, talked about how he was hurt riding a motorcycle that can go over 200mph and this and that. funny part, he was on surface streets going 35 and someone changed lanes into him

You may be right.. One thing is for sure. No GT500 = No ZL1. And as of the time my fingers touched the keyboard all that I stated was true..

I have a GT500 and 2SS/RS. I love them both.
These are the best of times for us HiPo car guys. Seriously, the best. The competition makes both brands stronger, hope that they don't get snuffed out like they were in the early 70's or we will be bickering about the good ole' days or which Prius model gets better mileage than a Leaf. Our Pony cars can embarrass many (most) of the high brow imports at a moments notice. How long have we waited for that?

You can argue over stock vs stock all day long but once you start modding, all bets are off. The good thing is both cars are a great canvas for owners to play with.

But if you can afford these cars and have the desire to own one. This is indeed a cause for celebration for many of us.

mmmmmmmmmm............how old are you? Not sure, but methinks you need to go back to -- oh -- say --the EARLY 60s.......and look at the market...... And let's not forget the "Mustang II" -- It's not quite as simple as "Ford created this segment" and "Chevy has been playing copycat for the entire time" - As I said on two other threads - this is a great time for enthusiasts - and competition is good for everyone.

as in Irish European
|
And here are my thoughts
As an Irish-European (as opposed to an Irish-American) drag racing always meant little to me. It was something Americans with poor handling powerful cars did. In Ireland we love Rally Driving and Road Track Racing. Thus I always drove Mazdas and Subarus, as I wanted excellent cornering, that was until........................................I saw and read about the 5th Gen Camaro. Here was an American muscle car pulling in suspension design teams from Australia and being designed to corner well. I was hooked. I was going to get one. Sure I could have gotten an equally handling used BMW, Merc, Audi or Porsche for similar money, and I did test drive some, but besides not wanting to appear pretentious (a nice way of saying "like a douche-bag") I also realized I couldn't convenientally or reasonably get them serviced. Thus in late 2009 I put my name on the list for a 2SS. I LOVE IT! I have showed it at car shows and taken it to track days and driven it around corners until the brake fluid boiled. I have even driven it on a drag-strip ( Shhh don't tell my friends in Ireland) Now I see the ZL1 coming and what is it being designed for .........the track. Oh yeah! Sign me up. ![]() GT500? Never even considered it. Never have gotten the feeling that it was being designed for the track always seemed designed for the strip. What about the Boss. Sure I Looked at it but only the Monterey looked like it would outperform the Camaro and it was far from a daily driver. I will be happily driving a 580+HP ZL1 around corners long before a 2013 GT500 spins it wheels at a drag-strip
