power sunroof auto close?

Is there a way to program the sunroof to auto close when you shut the key off?
I had a gmc jimmy from the nineties that did that. I can't believe with all this technology that a 2012 Camaro doesn't do this by default.

I'm sure there is a way. Maybe it is something that GM could give us in the form of a software/firmware update?

It's probably a safety concern why it doesn't do it. Like your door power windows, they go auto down but not up. The door windows could do some serious damage to someone who wasn't paying attention, kids, dogs, dumb adults.

My windows go up automatically too. I am sure there is a way to make the sunroof do the same.

Buy the car that you would most like to get beat in. The other guy will always be faster.

I think they just do, meaning that we don't have the option to program them.

As far as I know the Camaros have always had auto up windows. Mine came with it and the 11s I researched last year had it too.

As for the sunroof, I'd love for it to auto close!

I can understand the power windows not going up automatically but I'd like if the sunroof would as well. I didn't want the sunroof at first but then I got a discount on my sunroof from the dealer and took it. It'd be nice if it would automatically close. I can live without it though. It's cold now anyways.

My windows auto-up as well (RS V6). Have been wondering since I got her the very same thing about the sunroof lol. I was always like "I sure wish it would auto-close w/ the touch of the button, just like it auto opens". I dunno... just think they coulda done better & made it auto-close.

I also hate how when you get the RS package... the freaking FOG lights AREN'T fog lights... just daytime running lights :O Daytime running lights?? My neighbors have a MINIVAN that has foglights... and my Camaro RS doesn't?? WTH?? FML :(

This has been discussed in the past. The manufacturer of the sunroof motor and it's control assembly didn't write the code for the auto close feature for lack of an anti jam mechanism. Basically, the sunroof won't stop closing if something gets stuck in it, so they made it so you have to manually hold the button to close it, to cut down on possible serious injury.

I didn't know that those cool glassy looking things in my front bumper that I had THOUGHT were foglights were wanna-be's until I signed the dotted line, got her home in my drive, read the manual (when I couldn't find the switch on my own), and it said SURPRISE!! That's one thing I loved about my '01 Firebird was tooling around w the foglights on. Had I known these things were fake & just DRL's, I would have gone up one on performance, and down one on trim & got the 1SS, so at least I would have stinking FOGLIGHTS :O

Sorry, I know this isn't the post for foglights... but I just had to get that off my chest ... all better now

Not really... I still wish my RS had foglights, but I mean it felt good to vent... LOL

Thanks! I bet it could still be written or powered somehow. Maybe look at how the windows are powered and what not then find a way to make it work with the sunroof.

On top of all that stuff, the thing opens to the outside of the car and does not slide into the roof like most vehicles. Then again, there'd be a considerable loss of headroom if the roofline stayed the same. Wondering if the sunroof (moonroof) was an afterthought when they started to market these?

Read part way down, "programming your power window." Hopefully that gets you fixed up.

Continue to go down? Seems backwards. anyways.. 2012 BMW 550 sunroof doesn't auto close either, 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland... one touch auto closes unless your hand is there. So their you go, < $45k screwed > $85K screwed. So somewhere between there is your sweet spot for one touch close on the sunroof.

So someone asked about the power windows auto closing feature and how to program it..............I'm a bit confused though by the reponse and a link posted regarding the " How Too". I believe the auto or automatic closing the questioner was refering would happen only once the key is removed from the ignition.

On the other hand auto indexing while the car is running, or while the car is shut off but the key is in the on or accessory position, is completed by your physically lifting or pushing down of the switch completely and not having to hold it the entire time through the indexing cycle..........this actually isn't auto or automaticaly closing. Automatically closing wouldn't require any operator imput, phyically or by FOB command and it would only occur once you've removed the key and or exited the car and closed the door, and thus there is no reprogramming " How Too's" that exists.

One thing I hate about the RS package as well. There is a harness out that lets u control the lights the way u want. I dont have a link but they do exist and r on my mod list.
