Awesome Leather Cupholder Delete/Console Cover
Hi. Just finished what is probably my favorite Mod. Ordered custom cupholder delete/console cover from DSVCustoms. http://www.dsvcustoms.com
It's black leather and white stitching. Couldn't be a better match if it came from GM. DSV has a standard cupholder cover, but it has a cutout near the back that I thought would have been uncomfortable for my elbow. I really wanted a flush surface meeting the existing console cover so I could rest my arm and elbow for driving. As everyone has said, with the Manual the cupholders really can't be used anyway. So I ordered a custom piece without that cutout area. DSV's work is unbelievably high quality. I really can't figure out how they make their stuff; the leather fit to the support structure and the quality of the stitching is great. Unfortunately what I got from them originally was sized too large and sat up too high against the cup holder area's edges. So it wasn't flush. Which defeated the whole reason I splurged for the custom cover. This ended up coming out perfect in the end...though I had to do a lot of work to get it there. I spent a few hours this weekend opening up the stitching, pulling back the leather and then sanding the sides down with a dremel tool. A lot of testing the fit to make sure it would sit right once I re-wrapped the leather. Then I touched up the sides and glued the leather back in place. I am psyched about how it came out....the stitching lines up well and it's now perfectly flush at the trailing edge where it meets the armrest cover. It makes the whole interior look richer!!! The DSV guys were really good work with; wanted to make me happy with the custom piece even though it didn't fit the way I would have liked initially. |

To open the latch you have to lift up the cupholder delete by just grabbing the front edge and lifting.

It might be worth looking at once they get the bugs out. Having to rework the thing would be a PITA.

wouldn't it of just been better to just leave the cupholders there and not use it?

What it sounds like you're saying is that their work was shyte and you had to go behind them and fix it.
At least that's the feeling I ended up having after reading your review.

Love it! Is it easily removable if you find the need?

Replies to a couple of comments:
Very easy to remove; just lift up leading edge near shifter. Quality of work from DSV was great, as was their customer service. Only problem was the sizing of the mold for the support structure. It was too large for what I wanted. What they sent fit, just not the way I wanted for a custom piece. The support structure is made from metal and fiberglass. Very stiff and light. As modified it sits in there perfectly flush and stable. Cost was an extra hundred over their standard leather covered for the custom mold without the finger area. |

How much???? I almost pulled the trigger after lots of correspondence with them and finally pulled out when they could not guarantee fit. The entire console I was looking at was well over 1400 while covering all there expenses. With no guarantees on fit was a deal breaker for me. Looks nice though and hear the quality is good. However, I have heard that Lupe is going to be creating something similar?

Modding something to make it better than original is the whole point. If you have no plans on ever using the cupholder, and want to add some spice to the available space, leaving it as is, definitly is not an option.
