borla "S" type / MUFF DEL

Hey everyone! I currently have a black CAI with a resonator delete. I have a rattle problem which i am pretty sure is from the new straight pipe i put in, due to a little mark on the heat shield. I am contemplating buying a borla s type catback new, since i cant find a used one. I am just wondering if its worth the 1100 dollars and buy an exhaust/ get rid of the tiny rattle i have in reverse. I listen to videos all the time and try to convince myself that it really is worth the extra ( if that) noise i will be getting.
My car gained probly 20% sound when accelerating at a normal daily driving speed, but at WOT is great. Does the S type give sound the whole way through? And will i still that have somewhat annoying decel pop?
If anybody has done these two options and can chime in. I personally feel altering the stock exhaust gave me kind of a boat sound and its very inconsistant and only sounds great at cold startup. I plan on going with ARH or Kooks headers in the future with a jannetty tune if that helps.

I appretiate any help as i am only a 23 year old guy trying to learn about the thing that puts a smile on my face even on the worst days! oh and ps - My grammar is really not this bad, but this work computer SUCKS!

I have the s type catback and love it. It eliminates 98% of the decel popping, and what you do hear is greatly muffled (80% quieter). Driving passively the exhaust is audible but quiet enough to hold a conversation at normal volume. Driving normally the exhaust sounds great, and aggressively it sounds like a beast. Do note you WILL have drone at highway speeds north of 60mph.

I have both the S-type and Kooks stepped headers. I just installed the headers and here's my observations. (FYI, I have a manual so my guess is your results will be different.)

With CAI only, I didn't really get an annoying drone until 75 MPH and above. Once the headers went on, the drone level dropped to 70 MPH. The popping only occurs for me around 1200 RPM, nothing changed there even after the headers and tune. I would say for sound the S-type is about what you describe for your current setup. Slightly louder on normal cruising but really opens up when you step on it. Obviously with the headers that all changed and everything is louder all around. Still a decent around town sound level but at highway speeds it is louder. As I said the drone sound starts at a lower speed now. I'm pretty happen with the overall sound since I was not looking to sound like a stock car. And the headers really changed the pitch where I can only describe the sound like something you would hear from supercars. It's really cool.

I have the Borla S Cat back with the ARH 1 7/8" headers. If your looking for that deep muscle car thunder this is the set up you want. You can start your car and not piss off the neighbors and when you want kick it down you will be the bad boy on the block.

If you have an L99 you will have a little drone at 70. After my car was Dyno tuned it was completely gone. The drone never bothered me and I think most of it was the AFM system. I dropped 1 mpg after it was shut off.

If you have an SS you paid at least $35,000 for the car. After market mods are sometimes a gamble that's why you should always buy the best quality available. If you cant afford the best then save your pennies until you can.

There is no difference in drone among the L99 and LS3.. been in both with the same setup...what you are hearing is AFM exclusive to the L99. I have the L99 with the Borla S type and headers. I know I am bias, and will admit it...but the tone of the Borla beat everything else I have researched online and at Camaro car shows.

Corsa will eliminate drone, period. I thought it was a bit raspy for my taste, but still great quality. Borla will drone at highway speeds between 70-75 mph...nothing to do with the L99. With the LS3, you can just shift out of those RPMs.

De-cel popping won't be an issue with an L99 and the LS3 can have it tuned out.

I am warning you, the AFM with this exhaust can be very annoying. I suggest you consider the tune right now or wait until you throw your headers all on at once. That is what I did...I drove the S type with no headers, w/out a tune for awhile and it can be rather brutal to listen too... not to mention other people around you hear it too.

After that warning... understand that once you tune out AFM and get a Jannetty performance tune WITH headers, intake, exhaust you will never regret it. I go to car shows and consistently have people complimenting my exhaust over anyone elses and that can sometimes include Cammed cars... when you get on the interstate and throw the pedal to the floor the sound will break your face with a smile like you have never had before...

ill try to get a video up for you soon

It won't provide me a link, but these are the guys who installed it...

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Xplosi...s/354284719856

go to MAY 7TH on their facebook feed and they posted a video after install. It sounds decent at start up and revs... but pedal to the floor is indescribably incredible.

I have an L99 so I can only comment on an L99. The LS3 probably has the same problems.

If you have an L99 the sound it makes when the AFM kicks in will drive you nuts. I can honestly say after my car was tuned I have no drone at any speed. Just a little whiplash from the tranny tune.

Once you have the car tuned you wont use the paddle shift much. The shop that did my tune set the shifts perfect.
