Update!

Bad news: Southbound E. Mission Bay Drive was closed today, Thursday, and Northbound will be closed Friday
Good news: E. Mission Bay Drive should be wide open this Saturday morning, nicely re-slurried and re-striped just for US!

If for any reason, the parking lot at the Visitor Center is closed (being re-slurried?), then we will meet at 09:00 am at the first parking lot south along E. Mission Bay Drive (about 100 yards). We will head out at 09:30 am...it took me 15 minutes this morning to get to the north parking lot at the County Administration Building (the entrance is off southbound PCH, and is a bit narrow, so keep 'er slow!). From there, it is just another 5 minutes to the Convention Center (quite a few lights, with short sections the closer you get to the Convention Center).

There is no way for us to do a "fly by" the Dealer "Drive & Ride" areas at the front, so we will just motor on to the top of the parking structure at the Hilton...it is just $10 per car!

I will bring Google Maps of the route from the Visitor Center at Mission Bay -> the SD Convention Center, with areas marked where we can pull over if we get separated by lights, before meeting up with the rest of the group at the County Administration Building.

Do you think driving on a newly repaved road is a good idea? There will be lots of rocks flying up. It might be a better idea to take I-5 to from the Visitor center to the Sea World drive exit, then pick up PCH. That way we bypass the repaved road.

Its not repaved. shouldnt be any rocks at all, the slurry coat is almost a thin tar like stuff that they spread out.

To be honest, they may only be sealing cracks on the road, I assumed the road would be re-slurried, because it SURE would be NICE if it was...just for us!

There should be time between 09:00 am - 09:30 am to check out the road on foot from the Visitor Center (assuming THAT is not closed Saturday morning). If there is any question about the surface, we can certainly do what Scott suggests, taking I-5 south 1 exit down to totally avoid the road work (that should wrap up today, Friday), then jumping onto PCH from Sea World Drive...

FYI...whichever way we go to get onto PCH on the east side of Sea World Drive opposite Fiesta Island, if we do not all make it thru the light, do NOT pull over immediately east of the traffic light on PCH...the road immediately narrows to a 1-lane bridge(s), and we don't want to bottleneck there...instead, after crossing the bridge(s) and before approaching the Old Town area, there is plenty of space on the right to pull over (there is a CHP station first, then a long stretch of diagonal parking spaces - though, on Thursday morn, many were taken up by old RVs).

Do not turn onto Fiesta Island, if you do, you have two choices, 1) make a U-turn on a dirt / sandy parking lot, or 2) travel the one-way road on Fiesta Island, which eats up a good 6 minutes (15 MPH limit...joggers, bikers, dogs, etc.)...

Sweet...

Looks like it is going to be a GREAT turnout! DocHolliday (Matt) is going to join us as well...for all (of us) civilians out there, bring something - anything - that makes you "look military" (hat, Miramar Air Show t-shirt, camoflague shorts, etc.) so we can use all the red Military Free tixs (actually, the tixs do not say "ID required", just that "Chevy Dealers (and car owners?) salute our Military"...f--- yeah!

I am not sure how many from south of downtown are meeting at the Starbucks (southern route start was at a Starbucks, but not at Sassafras)...if no one is there by 09:30 am, you can head to the County Administration Building's north parking lot (accessed the best by PCH southbound lanes, entrance is just south of Grape)...those leaving from the SD Visitor Center on E. Mission Bay Drive should be at the Admin parking lot around 09:45 - 09:50am, traffic and fog permitting...see you there!!!!

Here are the two "authorized" cruise routes, meet at 9:00 am and leave for Downtown at 09:30 am:

From NORTH / EAST:
1. Mission Bay -> SD Convention Center Cruise (20 minutes)

From SOUTH:
2. Starbucks @28th Street & I-5 -> Convention Center Cruise (17 minutes)

Mike,

Thanks for the ticket and it was good meeting everyone. Was a little disappointed with the Chevy area. Was hoping to see a ZL-1 but instead we got a stuff we could drive to the lot to see. Really liked the GS Vette though.

Hey great time meeting you guys! I agree with above, the chevy area was a little disappointing. Although, the ZR1 and grand sport corvettes were pretty sweet.

Ditto, ditto, ditto, ditto and ditto! Rob is ready to do a burger & beer run, so am I, let's plan one before January is out! Maybe we can pick one of the Boll Weevil Restaurants (Lakeside or Ramona? - depending on the desirable cruise length) as a destination, then just determine a good starting point...
