It has begun! (carbon fiber project)

After 9 years, I'm finally back in a Camaro.

Last night, I picked up an IOM 2010 2SS/RS w/LS3 and a Corsa catback. (less than 15k on the clock.)

So far, it's day 2 and I really enjoy the car. It's a little bigger than my Lotus Exige (supercharged), but still an awesome car to drive.

My only complaints are three:

1. The shifter knob is wwaaaayyyy too big. It's like shifting a baseball.

2. Something is clearly wrong with the stereo. I can't use the rear speakers at all, because it pops, bangs, and vibrates something awful. I think the DS front door speaker is blown, as well.

3. The passenger side muffler was crushed (oddly, without any additional damage to a single other part of the car), so I need to have it replaced. I don't know if it was done by the trucking company or it's simply undisclosed damage by the seller.

Does anyone have a source for a passenger side Corsa muffler and tip? (Oddly, the tip is still perfectly centered in the rear valence.)

I'm no stranger to mods, so I'll be looking to clean up the stock suspension, put either a turbo or Maggie setup on it, get some stripes laid down, and change the spoiler.

Since my partner (business, not lover, not that there's anything wrong with that) and I own a small Carbon Fiber manufacturing company, I'm also going to start pulling parts from the interior, under hood, and rear of the car to either replicate from, or wrap in, carbon fiber.

Specifically, we'll be doing the 4-pack, dash board trim, side panels, tweeter pods, and maybe the side trim from the center console, plus a Metra double din/nav setup, for interior carbon.

For the exterior, we'll be doing a windshield cowl, fuse box covers, portions of the engine cover, the front metal plate with the "GM PERFORMANCE DIVISION" plaque, and a few other small pieces.

For the rear, we're going to do the rear valence, plastic covers over the tail lights, and the plastic trim panel at the rear wall of the trunk. (plus some trick walls for a custom audio installation.)

Anyway, suggestions and recommendations are always recommended.

Here are a few more crappy cell phone pictures.

Please excuse the temp dealer plate. I pick up the actual plate tomorrow.

Here are a set of carbon fiber door sills we're doing for the C6, but as soon as I can get my hands on a new set of Camaro door sills, I'll be adding those to my car in carbon, too.

See ya,
Alan

Looks like a fun project. When you finish your interior pieces, post pics asap. I'm still looking for a few parts at a reasonable price. =P

Have fun with the build!

Thanks guys. I'm looking into becoming a paying vendor once get through a group purchase for some c6 door sills on another forum.

Our claim to fame, if you will, is reasonable pricing and everything is made by us, PERSONALLY here in America. Nothing gets outsourced to China.

@Tony: we only work in real carbon.

While the vinyl and hydro dipping can look nice, then deep look of actual carbon fiber is what really does it for us.

Plus, I'm a proud guy. I'm not sure how I'd feel the first time someone said, "that looks nice. I it rel carbon fiber?"

And I had to look at my feet and say "no."

You're not kidding.

My Exige weighed in at a whopping 2000 pounds, plus my chunky butt. It put down 225 RWHP, which was plenty zippy around town. It was far from being a highway terror, but once it hit an off ramp, it was game over for anyone trying to keep up.

It was like a cat on carpet.

I really, REALLY loved that car. It was unfortunate that the guy who backed into me didn't have a back up camera.

Can you imagine sitting in your car, messing with some stuff in your passenger seat, then looking up to see THIS just happened?

Try the MGW the racing knob - works great for me! It replaces the stock shifter knob You might also want to consider getting a short throw shifter.

You might also want to check out the Scosche double din set-up. They recently came out and I think I like the way they have the buttons arranged better.

Good luck with the Mods!

Thanks Tony. Fortunately, it's just a car and no one was hurt. That's the important thing.

I'm on a yacht tour thing with my wife until Sunday (some sort of boat parade in South Florida), so if you call I may not be able to hear you. (That happened to me tonight, twice.)

I apologize for the inconvenience, but it's a work function for my wife.

If you call and can't get a hold of me, please leave me your number and I'll call you back the second I hit hard land.

Oh, and if we can get 5 people together, we can make the Camaro sills available in carbon fiber for $199.

If we can get 10, we can include free shipping.

Also, we started stripping the Metra double DIN Metra piece of the rubberized paint. Once it's off completely, we'll wrap it in carbon fiber.

What's better than taking a brand new part and screwing it up, all in the name of science?

Hey guys,

I apologize for the scarcity of the updates, but it's been a busy few weeks for us.

We've completed a few projects, made some changes to the car's aesthetic, and are waiting to install some others.

The first thing we knocked out is our Carbon Fiber radiator cover. (Group Purchase going on now. See my signature for details)

After that, we picked up a set of TSW Nurburgrings that are 20X10's out back and 20X9's up front. Thanks again Adam!!! (Can I fit a 275 tire up front??)

After that, we partnered up with Lashway Motorsports (www.lashwaymotorsports.com) to begin production of a Carbon Fiber cold air intake. They donated a K&N system for us to use as a mock up piece so we can visualize mounting point locations and to identify any potential clearance areas, so that was installed yesterday.

At the same time, we started working on tail light drain covers:

To round out my "hey, let's buy stuff and take forever to put them on the car" I also picked up a set of Pedders coil-overs. (which I'm still on the fence about selling and/or trading for a set of PFADT's.)

We've also got a project going on for the all new CBR 1000RR, but that's another story for another day.

Sweet! That's going to be my next purchase. In these 9" rims, I don't love the way the 245's look stretched.

If imcan find a deal on the PFADTs, I can probably be convinced to part with them.

They're brand new in the box.
