your first scratch/nick/dent

apparently my ping pong table's legs are high enough to hit the lowest front lip on my front bumper. put a small 1" long indentation in the bumper about 1mm thick. it's almost so low on the bumper it's on the underside, but alas, it is on the front bottom portion. you can't see it after about 2 feet away, but i literally didn't sleep well last night i was so friggin upset about it. i kicked the ping pong table out of anger but i don't think it felt it.

when crap like this happens it makes you just for a second want to drive around a 1991 toyota corolla instead!! no one except me will ever see it or notice it, but it still pisses me off it's no longer in perfect condition!

what was your first dent/scratch/nick story? it eventually happens to us all.

I didn't find the damage until I was giving her one last coat of wax before it started getting cold. It was pitch black as I was driving home. Just as a passed a car I turned my brights back on but it was too late. I drilled an over weight fat body of a raccoon. Scuffed the under side of my bumper cover up. I was livid. Still am to an extent although he did pay for the damage with his life.

About three weeks ago, scraped a parking block while at Best Buy. Ouch!!! Got scuff marks on my right side front fascia. I guess I need to get some touch up paint. Also, wife dinged front right passenger rim. I'll just stop there, 'cause now I'm getting angry.

I got a chip directly on the windshield. And, as usual, also still in the field of view.
2 days after I have picked up my car!
I had could cry.
The chip annoys me today, yet.

You will find the PDR insurance is a good peace of mind purchase. Have it on all three of my cars, and have used it many times. I sleep just fine at night, knowing I'm covered and nothing to worry about. You just have to remember it's just a car, don't take things personal, and life is gonna happen.

so far it's going on a year and 16k miles and scratch/dings free. Hopefully I can keep it like this and don't have a story to tell.

Getting used to a 2 door car.. I hadn't had mine more than a day or so. Parked in the driveway, our bedroom window faces the driveway and had a air conditioner in it. Parked a little too close, swung the door open, and wham! Chip on the lip of the door. :( Didn't hit it hard either.

First week I had my car noticed a small scratch on left side quarter panel right on the top edge . Not really that noticeable but it's there !!!! I probably picked the car up like that . Oh well , your not livin unless you have at least one .

I feel the same way and I obsess about the small stuff but in reality we are the only people that notice the little things .

It happened with I had not even 100 miles on Domino.

I had a 1mm rock chip just below the driver's side DRL. On white, it stuck out like a turd in a punch bowl.

Picked mine up on a Sunday, and the following morning before it was about to take its first ride into work.... I rolled down the driveway, and absolutely thundered the trash can that my drunk roommate had decided to put in the middle of the f*&#ing driveway the night before. A few minor scratches but nothing too serious luckily.

Mine happened during my ADM scoop install.

In short I made a 1” wide, 1/16 of inch cut clear through my bumper while cutting the needed plastic piece for the install, I nearly DIED!! Crazy thing was that plastic peice was hard as hell to cut, but going through the bumper was like butter. Anyway my neighbor was there and talked me off the ledge! His lasting comment to we was “if this is the worst that will happen to your car, be happy”

In the end I filled with some silicone and painted with touch up paint and clear coat. At the end of the day it’s barely visible, you have to know it’s there. But since that day I know shit is going to happen and everything is repairable, beside my pride!

it would be a good idea to drill a very small hole at the base of the cut. those cuts can sometimes spread like a crack on a windshield. i had one on my old Z28 that spread about 2.5" before i drilled a hole at the tip, and then for the next 7 years it did not move.

you can tab a small amount of touch-up paint in the hole after you're done and it won't increase the visibility of the area by much, if any at all.

Thanks for the idea. Should I drill a hold on both ends, also how small are you talking? Like the smallest bit I can find?

I was concerned about spreading so on the back of the cut I filled with Gorilla glue.

On my 2LT I was angling out of the garage and a metal dust pan got turned on the nail it hangs on so it wasn't flat against the wall. Put a scrape right below the turn signal lamp on the passanger side. It was narrow and about 1.5" long. Painted it and being black wasnt noticeable.I just figured the car had some charactor now with its first scar. After a bit you wont notice it or care.

if the cut is in the middle of the body panel (vs. starting at an edge of the body panel), then you would drill two holes on each end. as for size of the hole, the smallest you can find to drill around the tear. so if the size of the tear were .5mm thick, find a bit that was .6mm thick. the idea is to not allow the crack/tear to go anywhere. by drilling a hole, you are creating an end for it.

i would actually call a body shop or look online as this always works with cracks, but you have a clean cut by a razor it sounds like. so i'm not sure that over time the clean cut would spread like a crack would.

Picked mine up at the dealer and drove it work work where I promptly hit the parking curb putting a 3" gash in the lower air dam. First and last time I did that.

I actually don't have any such marks on my car, knock on wood. I don't park it on the street, ever, and it's just my weekend toy, so it gets taken care of very well.

10 days after we took her home, I backed her into a beam. Barely a nudge, but still racked up $2300 in damage. FML.
