CEL after Solo HF Cats

How easy is it to damage a O2 sensor? All the plugs are connected everything is tight, no leaks and I got a CEL on the way home this morning. Only thing I can think of is I damaged a sensor but I didnt drop them bang them nothing. I'm going to swing by the parts store on the way to work and see what codes I get but I'm pretty dissapointed. I got the Solos just because they said they wouldnt trip a CEL.

I've ran the SOLO cats for over 20k miles. The only time I set a code was related to one of the the rear O2 extensions leaking. If your SOLOs came with the aluminum extenders, instead of steel, look real close at those. It doesn't take a very big leak to throw a code.

I had the same issue, figured out what code, and it was a rear 02. I switched it out and it went away. It's very easy to damage them, especially if you get anti seize near the sensor part, etc.

I just installed the Solo HF Cats not too long ago and my CEL came on, but I just pulled the neg battery cable and let it reset. It has not come back on since. Might just try that first.

I dont care about the warranty I already cancelled the extended warranty they talked me into when I bought the car I was just hoping to not need one till the turbo. Thats why I did the solos instead of the LTs. I just want my car running right with no CEL

I'll try that for now but dyno tune is scheduled for a week from today.

First thing to check for is exhaust leaks. That will throw a code (lean).

But obviously you need to check the codes first. But don't lose hope.

P1153 was my CEL DTC. What gives? I read a bunch of posts and this usually happens when guys put on LTs and don't tune. Any suggestions?

That's not an easy one. The computer is seeing an unexpected A/F ratio, which could come from a bad O2 sensor, a leak, or some other change in airflow.

What other mods do you have and did you use any RTV silicone to seal the shorty header gaskets?

Read over this:

http://www.ls2.com/boggs/dtcs/DTC%20P1153.htm

It will give you an idea what's happening, but there's lots to do to determine if the O2 sensor is bad or if your mods have caused it to read unexpectedly. If the sensors are good and there are no leaks and the car otherwise is OK, probably the only option is to tune them out.

Read it and basically I either have a leak or need a tune which shouldn't be since solo claims no cel.

Has to be a leak or bad sensor. There are way too many of us with SOLO's, some type of CAI, catback etc without issue. At least the code is only on one side.

Im confident there is no leak any other ways besides a new sensor to ensure the sensor is the issue?

if you haven't cleared the code already, pull the negative ground and see if that does it.

Then pull the offending sensor (driver's side) and examine the threads closely.

If you see a break in them go buy a new one. If you don't see any flaws, swap it out for the other one (check those threads too). Be sure to use a dab of anti-seize on the threads and the extender threads. Feel lucky that its the rear sensors and easy to get to.

If a CEL reappears for Bank2 Sensor2, you'll still have to buy a sensor.
If it remains P1153, you have a leak on the driver's side.

Sometime exhaust leaks "suck in", they don't always blow out (kinda like water can sometimes go uphill). Hard to feel with your hand.

Disassemble the exhaust manifold connection and this time use high-temp RTV on both sides of Solo's gaskets.

I may have it bassackward then... so it's passenger side front sensor?

In that case feel lucky cause you've only gotta mess with that side!

And the first thing i'd do (after you reset the CEL) is disassemble your conection and use the RTV. If you didn't use anti-seize paste, put some on the front sensor threads while you're there (O.K., have a look at the threads too). The paste can act like teflon tape to help seal the connection.
If its the front sensor then your high flows aren't "causing" it. Its either a leak or the sensor got damaged in the move.

Rule out the leak and if the CEL re-occurs, then buy a new sensor.

Sorry for the confusion- its nearly always the back sensors that cause a problem after a mod like this.

You could swap the two front sensors to see if the issue follows the sensor.
I'm not even sure it's possible but could the front and rear sensors on that side have been switched?

Sorry. I know it's frustrating.

It's not possible to put the front in place of the rear different connectors I dismantled the passenger side checked the sensors they were tight reassembled being very careful to line up the gasket, manifold, and cats as best as possible so we will see if I get a CEL tomorrow. I'll keep y'all posted

no CEL so far but it took a day or two last time which I thought was weird. I think it might be the hardware loosening up after driving. Solo send grade 5 so I think I might stop and get some grade 8 hardware and change out the manifold to midpipe bolts and locktite the crap out of it.
