How would you feel if the 2013 has more?

Here's a poll for all the folks who have secured a 2012 ZL1 order or who are looking to pick up one. If GM were to " up the ante" with the 2013 ZL1, performance/power-wise, how would it make you feel?

Explanations on why you voted the way you did would be appreciated.

I know several guys who bought a 2004 LS1 GTO with 350 hp who were pretty upset when they came out with the 2005 LS2 GTO with 400 hp.

This is another reason why it's best to wait a year or so before buying a brand new car, or the latest model of a current car. Believe it or not, the ZL1 will also have a couple of bugs to work out, which would give me more confidence by waiting a year or so.

If manufacturers stopped developing and improving on their products year after year just in case they upset those who have already purchased, then the ZL1 wouldn't exist in the first place....

I'm not going to lie, I'd be upset. I fully expect for there to be improvements down the line and have no delusions of forever having the highest performing Camaro ever produced.

But with that said, even though history has shown that manufacturers have upped the ante the following year after the release of a new model (Z06, Mustang GT), this situation would be even worse with the very short model year. Significant performance improvements only 5 months after the introduction of the model is sure to rub many 2012 owners the wrong way.

With that said, I highly doubt we'll see anything like that for the 2013MY. 2014, on the other hand, would be a great year to really up the ante. Either way though, I know I'm going to enjoy the hell out of my 2012 for a very long time. You can play the waiting game forever... I'm done waiting.

If its 10 to 20 HP more, it wouldn't bother me cause you probably won't be able to tell. now if its 50+ HP which I doubt, then I would be upset as it will probably push it into 11 seconds territory on media reviews and be on par with the 2013 gt500.

1. The 11s were the same as the 12s.
2. There's going to end up being about 14 months between release of the 12 500 and 13 500, not 5 months.
3. Rumors of a 620 horse 5.8 have been around for at least 9 months, and the 5.8 was confirmed quite a while ago, long before Ford made the official announcement, so I'd hardly call it "out of nowhere".

The ZL1 vert is a 2013MY and has the same HP. So, I doubt the coupe would have more.

Look how long and how much time and development has gone into this car, and to turn around in just a year and throw in more power. With how long people have waited for this car, and the anticipation... I'm sure a lot of people would be pretty bummed who will be getting the 12' model in the coming weeks/months. If this is the case, why would't they just wait until next year to get the ultimate Camaro... Of course more is better, but I'm not sure they would do that, that quick. I'm pretty confident they are happy with what they have made and soon we can sit back and see how this all plays out when they hit the street.

I really wouldn't care. Because I'm overjoyed to have ordered the car for what it is here, now. Too loose sight of that would be a character flaw in my eyes. Always wanting more? Greedy? Impatient? I dunno...but I'm not concerned with it - because I honestly wouldn't be bothered. I'll be having far too much fun with my own to spend time worrying about it.

If it ever did bother me....I'd be quick to remember that for ~$1000.00, I could do it, too!

Here's the thing, though....I don't think the ZL1 will be drastically changed until the next model year. I could be wrong...but this appears to be the zenith of the 5th gen...and the team appears to be confident even as-is, it'll be as quick as the closest competition's answer.

I would have to agree the differances between the MY12 and MY13 will be slight imo. You might see some cosmetic changes perhaps a pully change
to up the hp some. But they want to be able to keep this car under warranty without the chance of to many problems and plus to keep the cost down. Perhaps will see another chance for a couple of new colors etc.
Off topic was thier any official word on what the new mustang GT MY13
was going to start out as far as MSRP? I just wonder if with all those horses its going to be able to hookup or just spin.

Anyway not waiting for MY13 if I can help it, this car has plenty of HP in the stock version for me already! Gosh the wait is a killer and that exposed carbon fiber hood on constraint is making it take longer for the car to be made .

Why would it matter? A more powerful ZL1 for 2013 (or 2014 or 2015 or whenever) isn't going to make the 2012 any slower.

Besides, it would be a massive waste of time & resources to build 580 hp ZL1s for only 5 months or so. If they were going to do it, they wouldn't have announced that its 580 hp, they would have kept the CTS-V's rating of 556. Plus, they probably wouldn't have made a big deal of the 7:41 'ring time.

Been there, done that, with the SGM Special Edition in 2010. Sure I was pissed I didn't wait to see if they would continue that color. I would gotten into a SS in SGM and would be pissed that they came out with the ZL1. So who cares buy what you want or can afford. They will always come out with something bigger and badder. I myself would be sad if they didn't come out with a Snake Killer! All in all I'm happy I got what I have right now and am looking toward the future when a ZL1 is right for me.

I would be very surprised if there was a hp bump in 2013. There are likely emission durability requirements that would require "some" work before a significant power bump could be commercialized. I do not believe they can just "bump" it without these types of consideration.

Also, I believe GM is convinced that the ZL1 is going to outperform the new GT500 as is so why would they do this?

I could see some changes in the colors or some small changes in performance and weight reduction, but if they make the ZL1 available in the same class as the Z06, GM would be dipping into those sales. Letís face it; the ZL1 is already on the door step of supper car territory. I think if changes to the ZL1 are in weight reduction that would take a lot of engineering cost and exotic lightweight materials, the price for the ZL1 would go up or GM would have to take the loss in profits..I donít see that happening from a business stand point..

Well I don't think anyone will feel happy, unless they waited.

There a numerous cases of improved performance in the 2nd model year.

Chevrolet SSR - launched with 5.3L got the 6.0L in the next year.

Chevrolet Z06 - launched with 380 and the next year got 400 HP

Chevrolet Cobalt SS - launched with SC engine at 200 and a year or two later 2.0 Turbo at 260 HP.

In most cases it takes a long time to get an entirely new car out. As much as it seems to be just a Camaro with an LSA under the hood, the ZL1 has a LOT of new parts that require a huge amount of resources to engineer, validate and put into production. When the car is launched, then an idea or two that couldn't be put in the 2012 MY due to time and resource constraints just might get looked at and even approved for the 2013. You just never know.

Because of the 13 vert already releasing its numbers, there definitely wouldn't be a performance bump. It would be a first if so. There may be a possible "track pack" which would include software tuning and a pully, but not anything straight from the factory.

If you think the 13 will have more of what you want for the same cost, it's simple.

WAIT.

Then it will be the 14 ..... at some point you will never enjoy the ownership of any of them.

I still have my Compaqq 386 PC around somewhere. It works, I don't complain that my iMac is so much better.

I voted "doesn't matter" since the convertible will be a 2013 model. With the late intro of the 2012 coupe, I don't see much of a change coming. Maybe an additional colour but that's probably it.

How about the suckers that bought a 2010 Mustang... GT or V6. I'd be pretty upset but I don't see a big increase in the ZL1 for MY13.

Honestly, I would not be surprised if there were improvements made to the 2013 ZL1, in any way, shape or form. I anticipate that happening. It's an automotive arms race. The Big Three are racing to the finish line, wherever that is. Chevy strives to beat Ford, and visa versa. I have a 2012 ZL1 on order. If they bump it up 50 horsepower for example in 2013 and sweaten up the pot by offering some other package upgrade for example, I will not be upset or bothered at all. As the 2012 ZL1 stands, it's way much more car than I can legally use. As Chevy call it...."barely street legal". I would offer a suggestion for those waiting to see numbers and results before they purchase one of these megaton horspepower juggernauts as currently available from Michigan. Don't wait too long, the improvements will keep coming until the CAFE sunami hits. That will be the big game changer.
