Heat shield rattles with exhaust cutout/diverter

Love the sound of open header exhaust with my NoWeeds, but am not liking the noise coming from the heat shield vibrating at certain RPMs. Tried bending shield to cut down on the resonance... helped a bit. Vibrations are starting to stress crack the shield. Am thinking of removing it, or at least cutting sections out but don't want heat transferring to the area above. Was thinking Dynnamat extreme, but have no experience with that material. Any ideas?

Had the same problem with my GTO. Drove me crazy! Ended up buying some header wrap. Cutting it to size folded and wedged it behind the heat shields. Worked like a charm.

Rattle was hardly noticeable till I pulled out rear seats... is much louder now without seat to dampen noise. Pulled out rear seat to see if a pair of track tires would fit.

So that's what that noise is! I have the qtp cuttouts and I've been hearing this for a while now. It almost sounds like a loose washer on a bolt so I've been making sure all my bolts are tight in the center consol since that's where it's coming from but they were all tight. It was driving me crazy, still is, that I couldn't find where it was coming from. And it's only when the cutouts are open and at certain RPMS. I'll have to get under there and check it out. Is it one particular spot that you found where it's happening? I'd like to stuff something in there as well. Let me know what you find and maybe take a picture of the area would be great.

I used some header wrap like CAL suggested... wedged it behind heat shield. Definately helped.

Picked up header wrap at Advance Auto. Autozone may carry it but don't know for sure.

they didn't wrap anything, they just stuffed the header wrap in a part of the heat shield to stop it from vibrating. I would like for someone to maybe point out on the picture which part they stuffed. My rattle sounds like it's comming from just under the passenger seat close to the center consol.

Based on the pic, you may not have any rattles. I'm using ARH LTs with 3" pipes. My NoWeeds outlet is further back than your's... is next to 2nd heatshield (where your H pipe connection is).

For those with ARH LTs: Placing strip of header wrap on inner edge of shield where it first bends up from tunnel (between tunnel and shield) helped reduce rattle. Thanks to tip from Cal!

I've had my car 2.5 years now and just recently was hit with this rattle. Sound reminds me of what would happen if you took a electric toothbrush and put it on the bottom of an aluminum pie pan. Only happens after the car warms up a little bit because the rattle begins at the same distance from home while I'm on my way to work. Only happens at certain speeds too....say 35-45mph @1100rpms. Sounds like it's coming from right behind the firewall. I haven't gotten under the car yet, but I have always suspected it's the heat shield hitting my headers or exhaust right under the the dash area.

Any more thoughts or ideas on this would be appreciated.
