I'm not trying to be a wise guy or something, but why don't you just try it and see? It's not like the engine will explode or something. Start it up and see if it runs normally. Then go for a drive, slowly at first and more aggressively if it proves to be running well. If it knocks or exhibits other symptoms of too much advance or too lean, take it easy or park it until you can get a tune. If it runs well, you're OK although a new tune might squeeze a bit more power out of it. We did this kind of thing for many years when a "tune" meant changing weights and springs in distributors and jets in carbs. It's still the same basic idea.

From my experiences with my L99 and a similar set up. My car with the CAI brand intake, ADM race scoop, Dynatech LT's and high flow cats dyno'd at 333 rwhp and around 323 rwtq. THIS WAS WITH NO TUNE. I noticed a bit more power from the strictly stock set up but not much. It was mostly more sound.

Fast forward. EFI live dyno tune installed and I jumped to 367 rwhp and 373 rwtq on a load bearing dyno comp brand dyno machine. This was with no additional performance parts being added to what I stated above. Same car, same bolts on, just the difference in tuning your car.

You are already "tuned" so you don't have to loose sleep over warranty stuff. If your tuner isn't competent or doesn't want your business, find another dyno shop near by. Even if you have to drive 3-4 hours and spend a day with them, I'd do it.

Other option is to buy a handheld and do remote tuning. Many prefer dyno tuning to dial in a car but many are also happy with remote tuning. Either way, your car will be COMPLETELY different with just some button punching.

as a tuner i would say this, fitting headers to a motor will due 2 things, firstly the engine light will come on shortly after, the second thing is fitting headers will lean a motor out and the car really needs to be tuned to suit the need header addition.

Now there's some answers from guys who know. I misunderstood your original question and thought you were wondering if it was safe to drive the car with the new headers no new tune. Sounds like you need to get a new tune to get the power that the headers will provide.

You need a tune. Engine will lean w/o tune.

I have the same car, same intake, cat delete and Doug Thorley Long Tubes.

I ran my car for about 2000 miles without a tune, it was just fine. Got it tuned (without a dyno) by a tuner at C5FII. Haven't had any issues at all and I can feel the gains a lot more after my tune.

IMO you're good running it for awhile without a tune, but I highly recommend you get one!

True, but he already had a tune, he just needs one now that he's added LongTubes.
