Header Questions

So ok before you all start saying I should use the "search button" well its SUCKS... I put headers in the search and Who's interested in an ATL C5 club? comes up as the first one and so on... terrible!! Anways... What is the difference between long and short headers? Also how much of a gain in power are we talking when installing these, is it worth it for the money? I am looking at exhaust systems so I kinda wanna know what I am going to be looking at. Thanks

The stock header are built in sections, the shorties just replace about 8 inches replacing just the manifold, making them equal lenth. I have always said and for the most part heard shorties are just for people in cali. They see little gain, but some people swear by them, LTs are the whole section, and you will expect to see 30 hp easy with a tune with LTs

So I was reading somewhere, that is you install short headers it wont void warrenty but longs will?? Also do you think if I install long, would I be able to slap factory on quick if I have to take it in for work? Also, do you NEED a tune with headers or can you do without untill warrenty is up?

Hey man, you can't be afraid to mod your car. The dealership always find ways to say it is your fault why something went wrong with your car. I have a 2010 SS/RS with 12k and it is modded out. There are so many knowledgeable people on this forum that can help you figure out whatever your problem is. Good luck and welcome.

It wont run lean with headers only. If you change the air intake, depending on the brand, THEN IT WILL RUN LEAN.

Headers only, depending on driving style, will cause some o2 sensor codes. The headers dissipate heat much faster and along with an o2 further downstream in the exhaust, will cause some o2 sensor performance.

What does this do?

Performance wise, nothing.

Fuel economy wise? if Cruising, not much.

Why is it an issue? Because it can set a check engine light.

Im not sure how loud that set up would be, but you can go to Youtube and search for it. I am quite sure there should be a few clips with that sound. I am running kooks LT 1 7/8 headers with a corsa exhaust and it sounds great. Its only loud when you get on it. For normal cruising it is not too loud.

I agree, corsas have great part throttle cruise noise suppression. If you use the stock mufflers, they will sound similar at cruise.

So where would I get a "tune" done... I just moved to some small town. Do dealerships do them or is that a nono?? Is there somewhere to search around a area?

Honestly, if its JUST headers, if you bought our system, you can send me the computer out of the car, and I can put a base tune in it. Is it a dyno tune? No. However, we start ALL of our header dyno tunes with this "base tune" and tweak very little afterwards. A base tune will get you with in 3%. A dyno tune will get you with in 1%.

So what do you "tune" when headers are put on?? I mean I guess why do you have to tune for them?

Did you search THIS FORUM, or a general search of the entire site? The search button in the "greyed" line starting with "homepage" will search the entire site. This will bring up pretty much any thread that mentions headers. If you use the "search this forum" button on the right hand side, beside "forum tools" you'll get a much more focused search.

Tuning wise, we change a lot, because we can. Torque management, limiter, timing, total Air/fuel, check engine lights, etc.

If you choose not to tune, you would not harm a thing. Only downside is like I mentioned, maybe a check engine light which will not do anything power wise.
