Drag race, SS by 3/10 of a second or so
Drift race, well its not really a race because points are awarded for style not speed. So it comes down to driver. But AWD cars aren't the best drifters ...
Grip race, never even heard of such a thing.

To much "Need For Speed: Pro Street" for you my friend. anyways,
Drag: SS by a few seconds
Drift: now where is that video of the WRX drifting? AWD cars can be drifted but its all about the driver
Grip: AWD cars have a tendecy to understeer and wash out in tight corners, so if its a tight technical track id say the SS. AWD cars also have higher drivetrain loss, so if its a long high speed track id say SS. if its anything inbetween the two id say the Nissan because it could get on the power sooner.

No, its 16 minutes 'cause you have to wait for the tow truck to hook it up after the Launch control grenades the transmission.

Thing about the awd drifting cars is they have sequential gear boxes which lets you set the F R power ratio, most of them go 20/80 or like the mitsubishi evo's you can delete the front diff and have 0/100 rear bias.
as far as ss vs r34
Drag: SS
Drift: Depends on which style you like, pure power through for the ss and more finesse for r34
Grip: R34 hands down, AWD owns on the track esp with yaw control and whatnot. 4tires putting down power is greater than 2. the r34 has OWN JGTC for YEARS, nothing comes close to the pure track worthiness of this car.

: RWD evo
: RWD STI

Sample of a r34 on grip

P.S. the RB26dett is an awesome motor, can handle well over 700hp on stock internals. Pretty common swap is into a s13chassis(Nissan 240 sx for those that don't know)
You are also comparing a 5-10 year old car to a new one 8-)

Thats the R35, he specified the R34 in his question.

Oops. But I'm sure you can see why I might assume he was referring to the current GTR, rather than comparing two cars that were not sold at the same time or in the same markets...

Close, the device you are thinking of is the adjustable center differential which lives in the transfer case, which is next to (or occasionally integrated with) the transmission which may be a stick, auto or sequential.
