A history of Camaro 1/4 mile times...

I decided to put together a list of Camaro 1/4 mile times across the generations. All times are stock Camaro test numbers from Car and Driver:

2010 SS - 13.1@109
1968 Z28 - 13.77@107.39
1999 Z28 - 13.8@104
2010 LT/V6 - 14.5@99
1983 Z28 - 15@93
1999 RS/V6 - 16.1@87
1985 Berlinetta - 17@81

They're missing a test for the 1997 Camaro SS-LT4 @ near 13-flat...and the '68 Z/28 listed was a Cross Ram/2X4s and a cowl plenum and headers vs. a 12.5:1 Tunnel Port 302 '68 Mustang (both thinly disguised Trans Am racers).

Yes...I thought that looked odd. Stock trim was more in the mid/upper 14's

Speaking of disguises, is this another attempt at a thread about V6 motors/haters? I see that you neatly tucked in a few non V8 platforms in there.

Seems he was trying to do the opposite and avoid ignoring certain models just because they had V6's. They're also Camaro's and should be on the list. In addition, since there are many 5th Gen V6 Camaro owners on this board, it gives them a chance to comparfe their car to some of the older gens just as the V8 owners can. At least that's the way I read it.

the LS1 was a lot faster than 13.8. they rated its times and its horsepower as such to boost vette sales. my LS1 was nearly stock and rated at 300hp at the FLYWHEEL and i dyno'd 323 REAR WHEEL with an intake and cutout only. and my LS1 was faster than my current LS3. i'd say realistically the 1/4 mile time is closer to the 13.0 mark.

if we want to make this a thread that has any negative (read: realistic) considerations for v6s in comparison (which btw i don't think the OP was trying to do), it's a great observation to see that the current v6 and LS1 had similar HP but staggeringly different times in the 1/4 mile. just goes to show what weight can do to a car.

It's even quicker today with modern rubber. Those tires are 60s rubber. Probably low 13s today.

You gotta look at the trap speeds. Those cars had acceleration thy couldn't use.

It's another tread trying to help your insecurity of owning a V6 by telling us how fast the old ones were. Remember though, those cars had motors impressive compared to everything else being sold at the time. Can't say the same for the new V6.

His thread about V6's yesterday was locked so this is his response. Total flame bait and I'll bite: The 5th Gen V6 is not the 4th fastest Camaro no matter how you configure your past 1/4 mile times list. Higher HP does not always equate to faster times.
