Very smart fellow, to have something to be able to observe that nothing is getting pulled through into the intake.

It's also the one that acts as a detergent that cleans the other two off your intake valves during operation negating the need to remove them from the intake...

To the OP, I do commend your investigation and the use of the glass tube to look for possible pull through. At least you know the can is working as intended, and you were even able to debug your own valley cover issue

I can't take credit for the glass filter, it was something SC2150 has recommended doing no matter what can you use. I just took his advice to heart.

I just had some work done on my car by a builder that's been doing LS engines for a long time. I saw an old catch can sitting on his table which looked like a Mike Norris one. When I asked about it he didn't know the brand. However, this piqued my curiousity as to his thoughts on a catch can. For the LS engines he recommended the use of one. And no he doesn't sell them.

I drained my catch can last night only to find that it is looking like warm weather oil again. Since I started this thread, the temps here have for the most part been well above freezing.

I leave my inline site glass in all of the time now, because I just like knowing. Tracy is supposed to be sending me a different style bracket and once that happens I may finally go without.

I have the same can that you do. could u maybe post some pics as to which hose you have plugged in to where? I may have some confusion as to if I have my hoses hooked up properly.

It will take me a while to get a picture, but if you have an LS3, the center fitting goes to the valley cover (low and behind the passenger side of the throttle body. The fitting near the edge goes to the intake manifold which is just above and slightly to the rear of the other hose.

RX cans are the best. we use them on all the High HP FI builds and never have to worry about dirty air going back into the engine

Why would you take it of,it's good to have it there to see if oil is getting pass the catch can into the intake.Wouldn't you think.

Many thousands of miles on the RX with no oil getting beyond the can, it's pretty safe to say that it wouldn't all of the sudden let some through. My catch can testing days are over, unless I see some completely new design that makes me curious again. So far there aren't any.

Are you using the valve or the plain fitting, the reason I ask is that a couple c5 member experienced the valve freezing up and had to switch back to the plain fitting.

I have the plain fitting. I suppose an engine with a supercharger or turbo may need the valve, but the RX works perfect without, in my testing. I initially had the check valve but after a while it started to chatter. Tracy sent me the plain fitting and it worked out great.

I forgot to ask you where is this valve that they experience chattering noise and have frozen up on occasions, can you tell me where this is located or if you have a picture.I looked to see if it was in the photos showing the glass in-line filter, but didn't see it.

On the top of the can, you have two connections. The center one is a plain fitting that is the cans inlet, and the outer connection is the valve. To change it, pull straight up and wiggle (it is a push-on style) the center fitting and it will pull off. Then unscrew the outer valve. That easy.

If you do the testing, you'll likely find that an ebay one will catch some oil, but allows some to pull through the can and inot the intake. The better designed cans will be way more efficient at preventing pull through.

Here are a few pics or Ebay cans:

As you can see, most are no different than an empty beer can with 2 fittings in.

Below shows one of the billet Ebay cans that the top is in the pictures above, and then a few other good and marginal cans. You can see the Moroso style (many branded by same manufacturer) unit with the media on both sides in the top section:

This is a bit over 5000 miles. Next update should be more precise as the beginning mileage being noted here is 33005. This will help me to keep better track of things.

I emptied my catch can on Saturday and got about 1/2 oz after 2000 miles. I'm pretty pleased with that as I've been driving the car really hard and there was 7 dyno pulls in those 2000 miles. Starting miles was 33005 and ending 35016. I started a new container with this 2000 mile catch and will keep adding to it for a few thousand more miles.
