NEW 1985 IRCO-Z HELP PLEASE...
Hello everyone,
I am a friend of the gentlemen that bought the 85 Iroc from Ebay with 4.3 miles on it. I am in need of a set of 2, or 4 factory NEW Silver Iroc wheels for this car. The original wheels were sold when it was new. I have found two new wheels already, but if I could get all four at the same place, that would be ideal. Also, I am in need of at least 2 if not 4 New, or very little used 245/50VR16 Goodyear Gatorback tires. I know its a long shot, but I have found 2 tires that are new with the stickers on them yet, and need at least two more. If anyone can help, or can point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it! Thank you in advance for your help!! Keith |

Keith don't forget that the rear and the front wheels on IROCs were different. They will say front or rear on them. Good luck with your hunt. Wow only 4.3 miles. Thats a rare car.

What was the final bid on that car? I watched it for a while. How good did it clean up?

Hi, Thanks for the info. I didn't realize they were different. This is going to be a real job finding some new wheels then. I really want to find some new old stock if at all possible. Yea, it's been fun being involved with this car. Seing something that old, still new is weird. I just gave it a bath for the first time today. Its going to need a wax job which I will attempt on Sunday. The paint is a bit faded, but should come out ok with some work. I will post some pictures soon so you can check it out.. Oh well, I will keep searching. Again, thank you for the information, it was very helpful! Take care... Keith |

The car sold for 26,200. It was won by only 100.00. It cleaned up really well with the exception of the paint is faded a bit. Im going to polish and was on Sunday and see how it comes out then. I will post some pictures soon of before and after. Take care. Keith |

http://s258.photobucket.com/albums/h...t=MOV06903.flv I also waxed a few parts of the car to see what it would look like. I ran out of time that day. I have then since waxed the car completely, and I will post some pictures later today to show you what it looks like. It tured out really good. It just needs some more work on the hood and a few other spots that are kinda dull. But as you can see, it doesent look that bad considering it has been sitting all those years...Will post some pics later...Take care... Keith |

Doesnt look bad. I think it looks fine. Also reminds of the back of the future car when they pulled it out of the mine and put the mismatched wheels on it.

So, Keith what's the story behind this car? What a find! Was it mothballed because someone passed or just didn't like the car? I just can't believe the car is in such good shape. My best friend drove an IROC and she said she wished she'd never traded it.
I'll be waiting to read the story line for this one. BlueNV.SS aka Claudia |

They are missing on the car, because they have not been installed yet. When Chevrolet shipped these cars, they left the front lower nose piece in the car to be installed by the dealer. They did this because they would scrape as they drove the cars off of the carrier truck. I have the lower front piece, just need to install it this week is all....It is still sealed in a plastic bag, and the paint looks brand new!! All the hardware is still sealed as well...Should look good once I install that, and get some rims. If I could ever find some that is...

I often wondered that myself. I have emailed the seller to ask him that very question, and have not heard anything back yet. Why would anyone store a car like that UNCOVERED for that long. It really did a number on the pain. Not to mention its not good to leave it sit without starting it, and moving it every once in a while. When I find out, I will post back... I am still amazed how good of shape it is in as well. The engine runs perfect, the weatherstriping is not cracked, or dry rotted at all, and it still smells brand new! The only reall thing that suffered is the paint, and the underhood insulation. It was used to make a mouse nest. I also wish the owner would not have sold the original wheels and tires. I have been going through hell trying to find some new oem wheels and tires, but I just have to keep looking....I will post some pictures of the car once I have it all waxed, wheels installed, and the front nose piece...Its going to look awsome!! There's actually a place that sells IROC style wheels in larger sizes, if you're interested. You could also try swap meets.

New IROC wheels
I have seen new oem IROC wheels on ebay, most of the time they are a single NOS wheel. You could find a clean used set of 85-87 wheels cheap and have them refinished.

Don't forget 85-87 was a different style than 88-90.

This is the one you want. They didn't come black like this one pictured but pay attention to the design. Yours probably were the grey version.
![]() Here is the appropriate color for that car: Here is the 88-90 wheel for reference: ![]() Have you checked out thirdgen.org? They have pages and pages of stuff on third gens. I know alot about them so if you got a question don't hesitate to ask, their style is just timeless to me. Such a great body style. I know for a fact the History/Restoration board over there would love to see this car. You would be the lowest last I checked there was a 53 mile Red 87 IROC on there.

NEW85IROC Cool that you have that very rare car. Its to bad the car just has the LG4 motor not the LB9 or L69 motor . What are your plans for it ? . IMOP it should stay the way it is, you only have one chance to have a brand new 24 year old car that has never been dealer prepped . But hey that just my 2 cents
I also have a 85 Iroc in Red with the LB9 TPI motor built in Norwood Ohio , ordered it in Nov 1984 and finally shipped to me in March 1985 Its sitting in my garage with just around 10 000 miles on it . |

There is also a spacer that goes behind the rear wheels. It's about 1/8" or so thick. Just in case they took them off with the rims. Unbelieveable that they left the car to rot with 4.3 miles on it.
I also have a 2005 Iroc Z sitting in my garage with just under 18,000 miles on it. Looking at the new 2010 ordering threads brings back very bad memories of ordering this car as well as the 82 Z-28 I had before it. I had placed the order for the Iroc about the same time frame as canadianiroc but for the L69. At the begining of March of 85, the engine was placed on hold due to vapor locking problems never to return. Reluctantly, I switched to the L69 (didn't want an automatic). Then in mid April of 85, they stopped making the posi rear end. After waiting months, found almost what I ordered on a showroom floor so I bought it. Hated that auto tranny from day one. :( It's sad to see Camaro buyers going through the same ordering games after all these years. No wonder GM is in the state they are in. Waiting months for an ordered car when the next dealer has them sitting in their showroom is just plain wrong. |
