hurst short shifter

the short throw hurst shifter that comes in some models of the camaro are the shifter the same as the aftermarket billet one with the white knob? my question is can i buy the billet shaft and white knob and it bolt to my factory shifter or is it a waste of money to purchase another hurst??

Factory Hurst and aftermarket Hurst are different shifters. The aftermarket billet shaft will not bolt up to the factory Hurst shifter. It might be easier/cheaper to get threads cut into the factory Hurst shifter shaft and add a white knob to it.

Factory is different, far inferior to the aftermarket. I drove the factory and was very disappointed.

The only problem with the after market is it's a little noiser than the factory. But if you can deal with that, it's all good!

I have the factory shifter in my SS. and I have to say I like it.. but then again I have not driven one with an after market shifter. the factory comes with the leather knob that matches the interior of the car but does have the Hurst emblem on the side..

I would not go as far as to say "inferior"... I would say it's more personal preference than anything.

Is it me, or is does that 'leather' not feel like leather?

I feel that a lot of the leather pieces in this car are not leather but vinyl or some mock leather material.

I like the factory hurst...the longer throw would be less comfortable I believe.

I concur. The OEM Hurst is 22% reduction. Aftermarket Hurst is 44%.

The only real leather is the seat inserts in the 2LT and 2SS. Everything else is pleather vinyl.

I do not agree with that sentiment at all, but it's a subjective point of view. The Hurst in my 2012 feels pleasing to the hand.

All I was asking is what type of material it feels like?

According the stieger it isn't real leather, and that is something that some of us can tell the difference of.

Personally I am fine with the height and design of the shifter, I only wish they used real quality materials instead of a faux leather.

Sorry for going off topic.

In reference to the height/design of the shifter. Hurst sells an adapter that lets you use the OEM knob with their aftermarket shifter.

I'll try again, sorry.

I understand that much if the leather is simulated, and I also understand that you feel that it is very noticeable. I said it is subjective because it is opinion. In your case, it is something you recognize and it may even bother you to some degree.

For me, the shifter feels fine. I also feel (opinion) that the simulated leather product used is of acceptable quality and provides a feel of luxury and quality over say...hard plastic.

I never discounted your point of view, nor did I intend to argue over opinions, rather I was suggesting from showing my opinion that some consumers may find the product at least acceptable if not satisfying.

I'm sorry if you thought I was challenging your point of view, I was not. Im VERY happy with my 2012 2SS TF3 Camaro. I considered the Ford and the Chrysler products, but I parked the GM product in my garage.

I had one like yours in my 2012 2SS/RS and it felt good, but I wanted the chrome shaft and white knob, so I swapped it out for the Billet/Plus 2 and I love it even more.........................

Maybe I went too far, but I don't prefer rowing mush, which is what that system as well as the stock system feel like.

All our customers are thrilled with the Hurst Shifter, excellent mod. Hurst recently reduced prices January 1st as well making it hard to resist.

You can say that again! I ordered from you and will try to get it installed this weekend if I find time.

What is the difference between the factory/dealer installed Hurst and the aftermarket Hurst shifter?

Aftermarket is much more firm, almost a gated feel.

Well if your in the market I just took one out of my car. I liked the look and it shifted pretty good but got a good deal on an MGW so Hurst came out. Old school look is killer though.
