Corvette Wheels for a 5th gen Camaro

I'm looking for a set of 18" wheels for my Camaro for use in auto-x events.

My criteria is listed below.

18" wheel is a must due to the availability of a greater range of racing tires.

Tire size I'm long for is 285 to 305 all away around. No staggered patterns!

Looking for a 40 profile or less. Need to check all the numbers to make sure that I'm not throwing the computer off too much.

Facts:
The Camaro bolt pattern is 5-120 while the Vette is 5-4.75 or a .65mm difference. They sell spacers\conversion kits for this combination.

My car has PFADT coin-overs which are an inverted design, my rear 8" wheels with 275's on them rubbed because of that design so I will need spacers or a different offset anyway.

The stock offset for the Camaro is 35mm

The stock backspacing for the Camaro is ~6.5" (Need to confirm all of this)
My guess is that the rear 9" wheels have a backspacing of 7.662 and the front 8" wheels have a backspace of 6.662.

Tires I'm looking at right now are Kumho Exsta V710 or Hoosiers A6.

I will be updating this thread as I get more information.

Tire Rack sells both of these.

Kumho V710 on the left and the Hoosier A6 (center) and another view of the Kumho on the right.

Those backspacing are all kinds of wrong. Rears have a backspacing of about 6.625" the fronts have about 5.928".

Here are some wheels offsets I picked with stock shocks. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=201546

So the front is 35 and the rear is 40? I was planning on making all the measurements this weekend and got tied up with other things.

My biggest problem is the darn coil-overs in the front and their design not letting me use the extra 9" rear wheels with 275's on them without a spacer on the front.

Thanks for the info folks!

I'll tell you what, measure how much clearance you have between your fronts and the coil overs, take some pics too and I can help you spec out some wheels.

I will try and get to it this weekend, thanks for the offer.

Hankook Ventus Z214 C71
275/35ZR-18 95Z BLK

This is the tire I'm looking at right now. ~$160 each. I wanted to go with a 285 to 305, the 275 should be a big difference with a 40 tread wear rating. Looking at 18x9.5 wheels right now. I'm shying away from the Vette wheels for now.

Just ordered one 2007 Corvette Z06 wheel from Tire Rack to check for fitting. The size is 18x9.5 with a +40 offset and a 6.81 backspacing. Will report my findings. Things I'm trying to figure out is if the offset works for the front or rear and how the slightly different bolt pattern will work. I may need spacers with bolt pattern converters.

If your stock 20x9 w/40mm offset rubbed the 18x9.5 w/40mm offset will have 1/4" LESS clearance. The only thing that might make it work is that the 275/35 18 tires are 3.1" shorter than stock. So these tires may be short enough that they sit under the PFADT spring perch, but without pics I couldn't tell you.

The vette wheel you ordered will have 1" LESS inside clearance than your stock front wheel.

Talk to the shops around us. Many of them have take off Vette wheels you can play with.

That may work because I'm planning on using a spacer/converter, what do you think? What do you mean by 1/4" and 1" clearance?

Where did you relocate your washer bottle to?

The inside of the wheel/tire will be 1/4" closer to the strut than when your rear wheel was on the front. The inside of the wheel/tire will be 1" closer to the strut than your current stock wheel/tire.

If you do use spacers make sure they are hub centric inside and out. Those are the only ones safe enough to use.

The new 9.5" front wheels with 275's give me about 3/8 of and inch of clearance on the inside if I'm lucky. The close gap is caused by the PFADT coil overs and their inverted design. The adjustment ring is what's sticks out the most and was rubbing up against my 9" OEM wheels up front. Beware if you have these coil overs, you need to do your homework to make sure that the wheels you purchase will clear the coil overs. I will take pictures when I get the wheels installed. America's Tire was shipped three black and one polished wheel so I wasted my time driving into work today to get them installed.
