there are quite a few threads on here like this. You can expect to get a fan of each shifter in here.

But, having said that. I'm gonna vote early for MGW... complete replacement shifter. NO problems at all. Feels great.. short throw.

good stuff

That is one of the drawbacks to the MGW... they don't give many discounts. I've only seen a few of them for sale in the members classifieds and even then they aren't discounted much.

The install is not bad if you take your time and watch their video it should take about 2 hours. the hardest part is the clips for the arms (not all that hard). but other than that it's pretty straight forward.

I could be wrong but I think they are pretty much direct unless you find a deal from an induvidual. I had the Hurst after market Billett/Comp. Liked it alot but am trusting OP's opinions about the MGW. Had one shipped to installer where car is getting some work done. Pricey, but it is a replacement shifter, not just the rod. NO compaints about the Hurst-liked the 'old school' styling. Hope the MGW lives up to the hype-Good Luck

I have a Hurst myself. Love the old school look. I would say about 75% of the members on here will say MGW tho. I just didn't have that kind of pocket change at the time...

I just installed my Hurst and it makes the factory shifter look like a tinker toy. True it is not a complete replacement but it it feels rock solid and has a nice short throw. Plus the price, $199.00 delivered if you look around. Try Apex Motorsports, they ship super quick.

Checked my records-MGW shifter assembly and retro shaft and knob. $401.00 total shipped from GA to CT. I checked their web site, best I can tell $350.00 + S&H gets the assembly and you use your stock knob. $55 to $75 for their knobs. Like I said earlier I really like the Hurst-I did NOT use the noise dampening etc. I like the vibration and feel of the more direct connection to tranny. It's all personal preference. IMHO there is no comparison to the factory 'MUSH' shifter. Hope the MGW helps my times cause I know I like the look of the Hurst better-just haven't paced the MGW yet. Forgot most important-the Hurst shifted solid and positive!

Hell yeah! $139 shipped, adjustable height/throw from stock to 33% less throw and it doesn't require sound deadening material to be added like the MGW.

Honestly, and IMO, the "best" shifter is and will always be a personal preference thing.

It is preference but IMO like the hurst! It took about a week to get used to but I love it, and the price has dropped a lot!! I paid 199 shipped for mine from auto agenda, I saw someone else offer it on the sponsor classifieds for 169 shipped!! You can't beat that, it's a lot lighter than the others, easy to install (30 minutes) and the name carries a lot of r and d with it!! If it didn't work well they would be out of business by now! Js!! Good luck though!! The Barton was the other one I looked at as well nice piece just more expensive now.

You should try and drive a couple cars with different shifters if that's an option.

With that said I love my MGW! Absolutely zero regrets.

You can only buy MGW directly from them or if a member is selling one in the classifieds section.

MGW shifter FTW! Install wasn't too bad, the only part that gave us trouble was removing one of the clips from the linkages. Other than that, it was pretty straight forward. The feel of the MGW vs stock is night and day. +1 for MGW!

You doint need an entire assembly. The GM. assembly is strong enough. Why spend the extry money, for something you doint need. The Hurst unit is to flimsey. With the two hex screws connecting the shift lever to the upper stick. Possable wobbel problems.
