I own a 13.3 inch MacBook Pro.

Never. Again.

Oh, you had two Dell laptops before this, both of which cost hundreds less than this smaller, less powerful laptop? Well, that version of Office on those obviously won't run on your Mac, you'll need to buy Office for Mac for a gazillion dollars, buy AppleWorks for a trillion dollars and have to completely relearn how to use it, not to mention the fact that the vast majority of Windows-created documents/presentations/spreadsheets won't open/display correctly using it, or install Windows using Boot Camp and run Office off that. Sure, it's annoying as hell having to switch between OS X and Windows, but we'll sell you software so you can run both at the same time for two gazillion dollars. What's wrong? Your MacBook hates running Windows and sometimes flat out refuses to run it even after 3 reboot cycles? No idea what's wrong there. Oh, and welcome to Feeding Management/Records Analysis for Dairy Cattle 630.03, we'll be using the dairy management software PC Dart that runs on Windows ONLY. Eh, you've been doing homework on your MacBook for so long that the stupidly sharp edge of the aluminum chassis has created a permanent dent in your palm?

Never again. Couldn't pay me to own another MacBook. I know I'm in the minority here but Apple products and me obviously just do not get along.

Go mac and don't look back.

I just upgraded my MB pro 15 inch to 8 GB of ram and it'll run programs like a hoss. I have Safari, Itunes, Minecraft, and spotify open right now and I have 5 BG of ram free.

Relearning how to use a new OS comes with the territory when you buy a mac, same goes for using a Linux server... If you don't like learning new things and are set in your ways, don't buy a Mac. Period. My mom doesn't like learning new things, My dad forced her to get an iMac, she got used to it. She can do everything she used to on a PC. So it's not impossible.

I never use Boot Camp to run windows... Parallels virtual desktop, or the free VirtualBox software will allow you to run windows as a virtual machine. It works fine for any 2D application. I haven't tried anything 3D.

Your best bet is to try to go Windows-free for several months and get used to the Mac versions of the apps. I didn't use a PC @ home for years. Recently I bought a dell All in one because I was depressed I hadn't used any Windows since XP... I still use the mac laptop most of the time because it's more portable and I don't need to do anything PC specific anymore...

Sorry your experience was so bad though. But buying new software comes with the territory of buying a new computer with a New OS. I'd never use office 2000 on a windows 7 box... Even though it may run, most people upgrade anyway...

There's lots of free ways to get around things if you try hard enough. If you wanted, you could use OpenOffice and access most M$ documents...

Don't want to buy a new Photoshop, GIMP is free and works well enough.. etc etc...

I've owned my MacBook for two years now. The learning curve was nonexistent as the pediatrics office I worked for ran Macs as well. It's simply too annoying to have a Mac with the things I require a computer for.

Gimp is cool (Graphic Image Manipulation Program). It is, however, different enough from Photoshop which I use regularly for me to hate moving to GIMP because half the time options I want are different in GIMP.

It is free though

Oh, and as far as your question...here's the answer.

Thanks though.

I just wanted to point something out. A lot of people point to OpenOffice as a "solution" to Microsoft office. If you are a VERY basic and occasional user and have rarely ever used MS Office before then OpenOffice is passable.

That said, if you work with MS Office every day, you will realize how horribly bad OpenOffice is. It really is not a solution at all, from its own format, to not handling MS formats perfectly, to the different names for stuff and how basic functions work. It just plain sucks.

I've installed it by request on a few people's machines because they didn't want to buck up for MS office, every single one said screw it and bought MS Office anyway after having to deal with it.

reading on another site, apple won the slide to unlock battle.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-17058508

THANK GOD, I hate that function. I didn't buy a non-apple device to have apple like crap on it.

If I didn't have to root or hack to remove it, id take it off my froyo OV.

Okay, I have owned a MacBook, MacBook pro, iMac, Mac pro, and a MacBook air. And all have been in the last five years. I run illustrator, photoshop, final cut pro, etc. my MacBook pro lasted me three years when I stopped using it, never had a problem and it still works fine! Also have a three year old macbook my wife still uses daily. I was carrying it around a lot and just opted for the air because of size and weight this time. Plus the air basically caught up to my three year old pro anyways? I run these programs for fun, a pro would probably be better if it's your job all day every day though. My point is my air can edit video, photo, and vectors with no problem for what I do. I was a graphic designer and mostly use illustrator, but the video stuff I'm learning and haven't had issues yet with power, maybe hard drive space yes (but I think that just comes with video editing).

2. Never had a Mac crash or get a virus in 5 years - period. Best argument for me!

3. Do not simulate windows unless you have no other choice, it will just frustrate you.

4. Do not install windows as a separate partition, then you will be open to the viruses again.

5. I will never buy another windows computer in its current form!

6. Many tasks are much easier on a Mac once you learn, but it is worth it.

7. Make sure any software is available for Mac that you must have! Most are like office and adobe.

8. These are just my thoughts, what do I know! Just that I am happy with what I have. I could go on, but these are some of the points I thought I would bring up from my experience.

You get what you pay for!

You couldn't pay me to go back to a windows based PC..... My 09 13" MacBook pro has been the least frustrating computing device that I've ever owned.

It just works!

But seriously. I will likely never own a Mac. Nothing against them other than the price on some. But they don't fit my personal needs.

Get a MacBook pro. It'll work great with your iPhone 4S and any other Apple products you purchase in the future.

I started off owning an original iPhone when they came out and I always upgraded to the newest iPhone on launch day, 3G, 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S. Loved them all.

I use to be a diehard Windows fan, but got a job working at a call center for Apple dealing with the iPhone. We used all iMacs at work - was awesome!

I got to playing around on the Mac and started to notice how easy it really was to get use to. Things aren't where they are on Windows, but it still makes sense where everything resides.

I decided to buy a MacBook Pro 13". I have had this computer for 3 years now and not 1 issue at all. I've seamlessly upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion and no issues there either.

Mac is kind of like a Camaro when it comes to a bug wanting things for it. Shortly after buying the MacBook Pro I bought, an AppleTV, another MacBook Pro for my wife, Time Capsule (apple network storage/router), and an iPad. I have everything synced up so when I come home if I've made a change to anything on my phone the second I walk in the door the change is made on my MacBooks. Seamless... As Apple says.

I use Photoshop all the time, as I'm sure you know, it works great it's always open on my PC (literally) and I never see a drag moment.

If you need any further help hit me up I'd be glad to answer any questions. I'm a network/ systems analyst so I work with computers everyday all day. Lol.

Good luck on the search. As others have stated, Apple products are reliable and they hold their value A LOT longer than PCs do. Win. Win.

When I bought my MacBook pro they offered student discount. I think they offered law enforcement/ military discount but it isn't as much as the student discount.

I don't see anyone here posting that their Windows based machines (the back end of Windows hasn't been DOS based since Windows 3.1) are the most superior things on the planet.

I haven't had a BSOD in over 7 years (I can barely even remember the last time) and my last machine was Win XP based and my current one runs Win 7 64 bit. All my work computers in the last 10 years ran Windows 2000 or XP and never had a BSOD either.

Its not fanboy its fact. For less than 1/3rd of the price of a Mac Pro I have a computer that can eat it alive, thats fact as well.

Are Mac's great, easy to use and perform well? Absolutely, if someone enjoys the experience enough then they should go ahead and get a Mac. However just because they work well and are good, doesn't change the fact that they are overpriced in comparison to their Windows based counterparts, that work perfectly fine and do everything the Mac can do.

MacMall is really the best place to purchase a MBP. I like the 15" and purchase additional memory separately. You can't go wrong with a MAC.

Show me a Mac that can do ANY kind of gaming with the highest end graphics that a PC can. You can put some nice video cards into a Mac, but you can't do SLI. The graphics on my 2 year old PC for gaming are so much better than any Mac could ever do. In fact, this passes on to other types of programs that do 3D modeling and rendering.

Look, I'm not saying Macs are bad. Not at all, but both platforms have their strengths, and Macs are not best at everything. The hardware is consistent and solid, but the library of PC software is so much larger that having a Mac is kind of like existing in an Oasis in the desert. It's nice, but there ain't a lot of it there.

As far as virus'...I've had more virus' on Macs over the years than PC's. More recently, no...but Macs are not impervious to virus'. And, when I had my G5 tower, something hosed the OS, and I had to reinstall from scratch.

Chris - im a firm believer that there is a reason that the majority of graphic designers, and marketing firms are a Mac based shop. Even the Adobe based products were built for mac and then ported to Windows, so i believe the software itself is supposed to work much better. I used to be anti mac several years back. I decided to make the switch and i could never go back. It is pricey but the hardware is top notch and the software has far fewer issues than PCs. I used to be a helpdesk person and the amount of support hours for fixing pv issues versus mac are extreme. Well worth it in my opinion. It took me a couple weeks to get used to the new OS, but its super practical. And yes, the ability to easily sync phone and ipad. Pretty good. Just my 2 cents.

I think you'll still design like a rockstar either way.

Luke

I suppose I could do that right now for you. 2 years ago, when I got the Camaro, I also got my PC. It's still damn cool, and I run Windows 7 on it. Never have crashes, and have tons of stuff on it.

It's like buying a Camaro, and then modding it. You make it awesome. More risk, but more reward.
