I think GM gave Avis a couple of SS Camaro's first because they are hoping some of the people that rent it will fall in love with it. Then later go out and buy it. Hertz did the same thing with the GT500 I believe. But that still doesn't make it right. They need to be filling the pre-orders first.

I just went online to try and get one for DFW airport, they don't have them. I called and the guy said that many of the "specialty" cars are for rent in more "touristy" locations like CA and FL.

However, he was obviously not a fan or he would have had exact details!

Oh well. I'll keep trying. I would have rented one for this weekend.

wtf

Kind of ticks me off that people who haven't even paid attention or put the time into considering a Camaro ever...are going to be able to simply check it off on a paper and get to drive something that i have been waitin for for 2 years.

But hey...I would definetly pay 200 bucks for a day to drive an SS around...They better not check the tires after i give it back to them lol.

Actually those stangs they gave hertz were hertz only cars....Ford didnt sell those version to the public. They only came in black with gold striping...My father rented one...he didn't like it at all. He said it was just a ramped up mustang.

And they were kinda the basis for the GT500....The GT-H is the hertz edition. I dont believe that the GT500 was made yet. They were damn expensive to rent to

They were rated at 325 hp...hardly anything worth 100 a day

Gonna keep searching, already tried later dates.

You know what, now that I think about it. Your right!! Sorry about that. Shelby just modified the Mustang GT engine and renamed it. They later came out whith the GT500.

That would be sweet! Picture this....

I wanna paint mine brown...

And instead of flames coming up from the front of the car, I want it painted to be a burlap sack at the front with the edges all ripped up and flailing in the wind.... with fist-sized pinto beans flying towards the back of the car!

And instead of the fake baseball or football that has broken and is halfway stuck into the rear window... it'll be one of those big frijoles sticking halfway out of the windshield.

How difficult do you think it would be for me to swap out the stock steering wheel with an 8" chrome chain steering wheel??

It would be easy to get the custom taco truck musical "horn" that plays songs like "La Cucaracha"... or maybe just the horn part from "Lowrider"... so I ain't worried 'bout that!

Gold spoked rims... gold tassle hanging up around all the windows... and purple shag covering EVERYTHING.

OH... and a naked Aztec woman laying on a panther skin... painted on the rear fender. And the Virgin Mary on the back window. And maybe a big bull sticker on each door.

A license plate frame that says "My Other Car Has... Lawn Mowers In The Back"

And a window sticker across the back window that says, in OLD ENGLISH, "Hecho En Oshawa, Caņada"

That poor car is going to get beat to death...what a way to start out it's life....

....and the faithful enthusiasts are still sitting here waiting patiently for their cars....and avis is getting these sent to them? Sure doesn't help GM look good in this time. But, who am I to complain. I don't get mine for another two months. I just want everyone else who's been by GM's side to get what they deserve!

You actually were partially correct. The next year after the Shelby GT-H was available at Hertz you could get the Shelby GT package on your standard Mustang GT, which was essentially the same car without the gold striping (it did have stripe packages, I don't recall the colors).

Please tell me why did we preorder and put money down, when everyone and their grandmother are buying showroom cars from their dealers. Now we find out their allready renting them? This is really disapointing. I'm not one of those people that wines about every little thing. Heck we may yet find out the rental thing is BS, but I'm starting to feel GM really droped the ball on this.
